| Michael Arndt, who wrote LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE and co-wrote TOY STORY 3, will write EPISODE VII:

Steven Spielberg, Quentin Tarantino and Zack Snyder have all ruled themselves out of the director's job. I have no idea why Tarantino and Snyder were ever considered - whose bright idea was it to put Tarantino at the helm of a film pitched as family entertainment? And when was the last time Snyder directed anything of worth?
Other directors who have reportedly been considered include Matthew Vaughn (whose schedule has been confirmed as full), Neill Blomkamp (though I can't find a source), Joss Whedon (who won't do it because the concept clashes with his ideology), JJ Abrams (who is the poor-man's Whedon and is tied to STAR TREK), Brad Bird, Darren Aronofsky and Alfonso CuarĂ³n (all of whom seem to have been named because they're trendy). |

| Can we get Kasdan to go back and write the Prequels? It's about fraking time he came back.
I'm not as doom and gloom on these movies as most people are. I'm excited to see what they do. |

| So, does that mean Kasdan will direct the film he writes? He's touchy about other filmmakers using his screenplays especially if they make changes. Is it true he hated the "I know" from EMPIRE? |

Well, he worked on the CLASH OF THE TITANS remake and didn't rewrite that. Honestly, the Kasdan of 2012 is not the same guy who worked on RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. |

Yep, this is merely a conversion tactic to get the doubters on board for the new films. Seriously, why would Kasdan choose to work on new Star Wars films with no stories of any real interest left to tell? $$$$$$$$$$. That's the only reason these films are going ahead, and I'd guess that Lucas still has a very big finger left in this pie $$$$$$-wise. IMO, this whole thing was already in the works long before Disney "took over". And, regarding rumours of original cast members returning, do I want to see classic characters brought back, only to possibly see them die in a half-assed CGI-fest? Hell no. Star Wars quality-wise died after ROTJ. Some trendies who hate Ewoks may claim otherwise, but they're only kidding themselves. Prequels or sequels would have only stood a chance had they turned up in the 1980s or, at the very latest, the very early 90s. The existence and convenience of CGI means we can never have the convincing and restrained balance of special effects and story which made the originals so special back ever again. Thus, there is no good choice for director/writer of these films. The disadvantages going in are already too great. |

| Big news on the Star Wars front today, officially confirmed by Lucasfilm. Michael Arndt has left the project, and Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams himself are taking over writing duties. Also, the crew has been announced.

A lot of conflicting reports so far as to what this actually means, and trying to read between the lines. Some sites are claiming that Arndt (who supposedly wrote a treatment for the entire new trilogy, and was officially writing Ep7) walked away from the project for some reason, and JJ/Kasdan are now starting from scratch, just months before they were (reportedly) supposed to begin filming. Others are speculating that Arndt was just writing the story and Kasdan and JJ are simply taking it from there. Personally, I don't feel good about JJ writing because it leaves the door open for his clown buddies Orci and Kurtzman. Hopefully, Kasdan can keep him in check. |

| I don't know how I feel about this. On the one hand, I hear that Arndt is a fantastic screenwriter (I don't know any of his work, though), yet on the other, Kasdan gave us The Empire Strikes Back. I just... Hopefully, whoever gives us the screenplay, we get a damn good movie either way. If it ends up steering closer to the low side of either trilogy, hopefully it's closer to Return of the Jedi than The Phantom Menace. |

| When Arndt was hired, I thought maybe the film had a shot at actually being good. But then Abrams fired him and now he's writing the script. It's doomed. |
