I don't know about newbies of all ages. I rather enjoy swearing and discussing tits with impunity.

Growth is good, but we should also ensure that it's quality, not quantity, we're after.

By all ages I mean 16 and over.
But what makes this site so attractive is its refreshing tone, but its still very civil. Being able to use the F word without filters IMO is not a selling point, or even desirable, and will drive people away, not keep them.
Discussing tits is no biggie. What distinguishes this site from the other one is that its not so tight assed, which is a good thing but I don't consider filters on obvious "bad" words to be tight assed. That's just a nod to basic civility.
At the other site the mods were prone to shutdown, or piss on, or snipe or lecture about discussions that they didn't "like" A lot of "lets all get along crap", when all that's really needed is a degree of civility in discussions.

Anyway I think this site is great. I don't care one way or the other whether tits are linked or bouncing out of my screen..Whatever the admin decides

As for growth, I'm more inclined towards quantity and then worry about quality ie bar the spammers and trolls. I realize this is more work for the mods, so the mods need to be able to deal with volume, so yes I realize, easy for me to say.

As for James Page, if he wants to join, great, even if he lurks. Thats my opinion. Nothing wrong with lurkers. Sometimes they lurk for a while and join when they are ready.
If two people sign up under the same James Page name, it could be treated like any other new member. First come first serve on the name. Any obvious spamming though ban them.

Just my two cents though. I do defer to the mods and admins who are putting the work in. It is much appreciated. Whatever you guys want to do is fine with me. Just chiming in with my thoughts on how to build the biggest community possible under the refreshing new oversight this board provides.

Well not dead, but just less activity is maybe more desirable to them. I'm not sure KTBEU served much of a purpose - MI6Community works much better as a new age complement to their main web site. And I doubt Page or anyone cares about members leaving - if he did, he wouldn't have been so callous or given no warning of the change. Members will be replaced, or that's how they figure it. We're just numbers. They'll still get hits on the board, so long as people want to talk Bond. It's a Bond forum attached to one of the biggest Bond sites, I don't see how it could die.

I was just thinking that perhaps KTBEU was a real bandwidth-eater. But I don't know what the payment system was for the message board. So it's just speculation on my part, really. I dunno.

Slow and steady growth, my dear fellows. Slow and steady in every way. Those have been my watchwords. (In best Temerity Drax voice.)

But seriously, if there's no new blood we will eventually get sick of one another and that will be that. I think it is essential that the site attracts at least a couple of quality new posters each month.

I agree. I'm already thinking I better change my name to Spambler.

PostSubject: Re: Beyond MI6   Beyond MI6 - Page 18 EmptySat Mar 26, 2011 6:26 pm

This forum, though founded a year ago, has really only been used for two weeks. The first week was all about MI6.

Throwing the doors wide open now would be a bad idea. I said from the start that once we had 100 or so solid members, the flow and tone would be more easily set and maintained by that first 100.

I would suggest that we continue to seek out other familiar members from other Bond sites but also think about our own friends and acquaintances that might like this discussion board with or without the Bond stuff. It's my experience that people who hardly know Bond and Fleming end up becoming real fans once they are given a bit of exposure.

So, I agree with Mr. Khan that slow and steady will win this race. But there still has to be movement forward and growth. If half of us bring one or two more solid members in the next month or so, that will be tremendous growth.

I see that CR and britishchap are on MI6book now... I can't be the only one that is glad for this CR, spamuel and britishchap free zone. Can I?

More a case of CR, but no Kitts you're not quite alone.

More people but not a huge flood would help on the long run over time. Should be kicking about come Bond 23 in one shape or the other.

Spamuel's become a slave to MI6book, and britishchap was practically humourless, and had a very time difficulty time with Ambler and MOO7RE.

I can agree with that. That last part was also true about me at one point, many years ago.. Now I think both of them are funny as hell.

This "new blood" is indeed necessary.

Opening the gates for anyone could be troublesome, but there are solutions. If kids want to stop by and treat this place as a jungle gym, then I suggest simply sniping their accounts. laugh Same goes for people like James Page, who have nothing better to do but to check out the forum that's putting his out of business. Perhaps after a few months, the admins could purge non-active accounts, too. This will ensure that the sneaky fuckers who want to snoop around here won't last unless they contribute. And we know they'll have nothing to contribute.

Plus, if anyone has friends who none of us are familiar with, then drop them a line. Couldn't hurt.

Speaking of, I'm wondering if Lala could get a hold of the woman she invited over to Studio B. She contributed quite often to the forum, and was an all-around decent person.

I can vouch for that. She was well informed and articulate. Can never have too many people like that in a forum.

I suppose we could have some kind of death panel system, whereby strangers are given a month or two to prove themselves literate. If they churn out stuff like "LOLZ rebeka black is kewl" then we respectfully part ways with them.

If we're gonna get accused of being elitist, we might as well live up to it. laugh
