Hm, I haven't heard of "3 Guys, 1 Hammer", and don't want to see what it is.

But, it's pretty fucking sick that people on Internet Land are getting off and joking around about real people being tortured and murdered on camera.

I'll skip this piece of shit. Seems like Tarantino meets Eli Roth.

EDEN LAKE isn't too much like Tarantino. Or Eli Roth, really.

I don't care for EDEN LAKE, but for different reasons than JSW puts forth. I'm not sure that A CLOCKWORK ORANGE makes a great point of comparison for this film.

The Clockwork reference was in regard to a gang of teenagers gone bad, led by a leader, and with the leader remaining bad in the final frame of the movie, having learned nothing about the error of his ways. This happens in both films.

Yes. But why should we expect them to treat their characters anywhere near the same way? The films are clearly aimed at such different goals, with such completely different concepts, that the "they're both gang leaders" thing isn't quite substantial enough to make the point of comparison.

It wasn't just `they are both gang leaders'. I was referring more to the iconic end shots of both films, and the message portrayed to the audience - that both have gotten away with it.

But in CLOCKWORK ORANGE, Alex hasn't gotten away with it. He's been lobotomised and effectively reduced to the mental age of a 5 year old.

I saw the trailer for this movie on a DVD I brought home a month ago.

The trailer got me interested in wanting to see this movie and I'd found out we didn't have the DVD in my stores rental inventory.

I meant to place an order for a few copies but then I got busy with other things and I'd totally forgot about it.

So are you telling me I shouldn't even bother?

Do you think it will not get enough rentals?

I never interpreted it like that. I thought they fixed his head so he was back to normal again, or the normal Alex we saw at the beginning of the film - emphasised by the final line `I was cured alright!'

I always assumed that his change came indeed from a lobotomy as well.

I think he means "cured" as in finally being free from his sinful ways. There's no malice or cunning anymore, just naive innocence. This is worlds apart from the Alex at the Korova Milk Bar with his droog brothers.

Um, I think the reference to Alex being "cured" is ironic. Whatever they did to his brain *un-did* everything with the Ludovico process, and he's back to being the monster he was at the beginning. At the very least, that's what Kubrick was attempting to suggest with Alex's response to the Beethoven, with his mental projection of sex in front of the crowd. This is also how Anthony Burgess writes it and intends "I was cured all right" to be understood.

The gag is that now Alex, still a vicious monster, will be working in the higher echelons of politics.

At the end of the film, Alex is offered an important government job, and accepts.

The minister states to Alex that he will now be working for them, and helping them. They'll give him a good job, good salary, etc.

And Alex starting to show violent tendancies with his comments when looking at the slide show by the doctor, coupled with hearing Beethoven then seeing his blood lust return with the sex dream, as Harmsway said, meant Alex was back to the evil monster at the beginning of the film. The doctors messed with his brain and undone all the brainwashing, `curing him'.

Evil prevails and wins the day.

Yes, you need to watch it again LS. It sounds like you never got the ending first time round. When understood properly, it puts a whole new spin on the conclusion to the movie.
