Tux mentioned this on BookFace, so I figured it could use an official thread.
Here are some recent news articles about the project: http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/dario-marianelli-to-score-brian-de-palmas-passion-passionately-we-hope http://www.deadline.com/2011/12/brian-de-palma-has-passion-for-rachel-mcadams-and-noomi-rapace/ http://blogs.indiewire.com/thompsononhollywood/exclusive-de-palmas-passion-heading-for-march-start-in-berlin
I'm excited.

Fucking internet crapped out, or I would have posted this.
-----
So, it seems Brian De Palma is back in business, shooting a film in March called PASSION. I stumbled upon this when I saw a link to a story about Dario Marianelli doing the score for it. I like Marianelli, so I'm down for that.
The synopsis is "A young businesswomen plots murderous revenge after her boss and mentor steals her idea."
It's rumored to star Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace. The idea of McAdams plotting murderous revenge in a De Palma thriller makes me very excited. Rapace seems too young to be a mentor, or maybe McAdams is the mentor. Personally I wanna see McAdams as a psycho bitch more than Rapace. I recommend John Lithgow for the role of mentor.

he used to be a good director until he lost his ways in the late 80s and he is still lost!!
His last good movie was CASUALTIES OF WAR (1989)
Everything after that has been CRAP including MISSION IMPOSSIBLE and MISSION TO MARS.
He tried to go back to the basics genre that made him famous with the movies Carlito's Way, Raising Cain, Black Dahlia, Snake Eyes and Femme Fatales only to end up making 5 Big Flops!!

FEMME FATALE is terrific De Palma.
For all its flaws, BLACK DAHLIA's pretty good too.

I also think CARLITO'S WAY is great. j7, you says flops. Maybe commercially.
Say what you will, De Palma is never boring. At least from what I've seen. Sorta like j7's posts.

MURDER A LA MOD says otherwise. But those were early days.
Anyway, I read a De Palma interview where he talked about how he thought this story had all sorts of fun possibilities for erotic elements, and he was excited about those. It looks like we're going to get another "Brian De Palma is/isn't a misogynist" controversy.
Personally, I'm excited that De Palma is reuniting with the cinematographer from FEMME FATALE, Thierry Arbogast. I very much liked the look of that film, moreso than I do the look of most of De Palma's more recent work.

I don't know. The story sounds perfect for De Palma.

Yeah, I wasn't too amazed by it. And I absolutely hate SCARFACE. Everything else that I've seen of him has been consistently enjoyable.
I'm just happy he's returning to another erotic thriller.

Yep. But you have your fair share of that, too, just angled against a different demographic.
Anyway, enuff about SCARFACE.
So... PASSION. Hard to talk about since we know so little. I've heard the original film ain't worth much, which is to say that it's probably exactly the sort of film that should get a remake.

I don't know much about Marianelli. Can anyone suggest some decent tracks by him?

I'm one of the few people who actually like 2005's PRIDE & PREJUDICE. Marianelli did the score for it. I like his stuff.

Tedious Phillip Glass-lite stuff, just like Alexandre Desplat. I'm tired of that tinkly piano + repetitive strings shit. It takes the romance out of love.

It ain't Beethoven, but it seems De Palma must have a reason for thinking he's the right fit for PASSION.

According to SBS Productions, Pino Donnagio's going to score this instead of Marianelli: http://filmmusicreporter.com/2012/01/13/pino-donaggio-to-score-brian-de-palmas-passion/
Can't fucking wait.

His name was on IMDb for it, but I assumed that was the usual false info for that site.

That's an album I've tried to hunt down. It's funny, my favorite from CARRIE is "Tuxedo Shop", from BLOW OUT is the "Co-ed Frenzy disco music", and from BODY DOUBLE it's "Telescope". I like my cheese.

After examining De Palma a la Mod, it'd be nice if another De Palma fan site was introduced to the Net.
They're still using Angelfire, FFS.

Bookmarked that site. I really couldn't be happier with what I am hearing about this film. And the thought of it starring Rachel McAdams.

Is reverse snobbery towards snobs still snobbery? I suppose it is, though I'll have to think about it.

Here's another brief article. Apparently, Noomi Repace will be involved: http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2011/12/rachel-mcadams-noomi-rapace-into-de-palmas-passion.html
