There's something missing from this teaser (no, not Matt Damon) and it took me a while to figure out what it is: John Powell's pounding, thrilling score. And then I found out to my great disappointment that Powell isn't scoring LEGACY - it's James Newton Howard.

Bourne without Powell strikes me as like Bond without Barry. If you had a trailer with Powell's music ladled over a relatively talky and atmospheric first half before exploding into Moby's "Extreme Ways" for an action-packed second half, even the haters ("You can't have a Bourne film without Bourne, it's a stupid idea, I mean just imagine a Bond film without Bond!") would be punching the air and screaming: "Fuck yeah! That's what I'm talking about!"

That is pretty annoying. Things can fall in. Your toothbrush, for example. I must have dropped it in the bog at least 5 times and it's your own fault for being a man and leaving the seat up.

And why do I keep finding my name in threads in which I haven't posted and usually in reference to glue?

When Santa does them simultaneously, you'll hate them even more.

Except for Clive Owen, I really hated IDENTITY -- it's look, pacing and especially the way it was edited, apparently to cover for the total inability to STAGE action -- and have only watched portions of the 2nd one (shakeycam was godawful) and none of the third, so for me to say I'm really interested in the new one is significant.

Very very good trailer, but that was I think true of this director's Owen/Roberts film too, yet that was some kind of mess as I recall.

Renner looks like he is competition with QoS-era Craig for appearing seriously messed up in a bleached look kind of way.

I really enjoy all three Bournes to date, although if pushed the order in which I'd rank them is:

1. THE BOURNE IDENTITY

2. THE BOURNE SUPREMACY

3. THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM

In other words, yeah, the series got worse as it went on, but, really, you can barely slide a cigarette paper between IDENTITY and ULTIMATUM in quality terms (although I've just done so for the purpose of ranking 'em), and all three of the films are extremely well-made and entertaining. I've always had a strong feeling that IDENTITY will continue the glorious tradition, and indeed it's the 2012 franchise release I'm looking forward to most (sorry, SKYFALL).

I could slip my 7.5 "er between them.

So Craig's wife is in a Bourne film. There will be some arguments at home I'm sure.

Renner's a more interesting actor than Damon, but I'm not sure about everything else.

Looks very much a case of more of the same, not awful but a tad on the stale side....though I guess I feel pretty much the same of Bond post GE.

Well, Renner looks less confused and angry than Damon, which is a good start. And the cast looks more entertaining than in Ultimatum. The story looks more of the same old, but hey, remember YOLT-TSWLM-MR?

Gilroy swears this movie has its own visual style and identity and it doesn't owe to the others at all. He and Elswit are a crackup together -- if I could post their email exchanges that led to my getting to interview Gilroy I would.

Of course Forster said QoS wouldn't be Dan Bradley-Bourne at all, and look what happened. (not this time though!)

Watched the trailer for the first time. They should call this THE BORING LEGACY.

There's a massive sense of "Who gives a f***?"

They plan to make more with Renner, right?

So, providing this thing isn't a Ned Beatty-seized commercial belly flop what will the next titles be?

Will Aaron Cross be cloned in DOUBLE CROSS?

Will he find Jesus in SIGNS OF THE CROSS?

Maybe he'll be go undercover as a male stripper in HOT CROSS BUNS.

^ laugh

Gotta admit that I quite like the look of it, though ... it'll scratch the 'spy action-thriller' itch while I wait for Skyfall.
