I love FRWL (it's my second favorite Bond flick) but a scene (or two scenes) that have always bothered me are the resolution of the gypsy girl fight. Or perhaps the traditional interpretation of this scene is what bothers me. Most fan sites list Bond as having four girls in FRWL - Tatiana, Slyvia Trench and the two gypsy girls. But is that true? I agree that Kerim's chuckling when he brings the girls to Bond's tent is suggestive, but the whole idea that Bond actually beds them has always bothered me. I don't even object the idea of Bond having a threesome per se (consenting adults and all that), but the idea that these two girls would bed Bond seems . . . weird. They were willing to kill each other to marry the chief's son, now they are willing to sleep with a stanger to marry the chief's son?!?!? Also, the usual Bond movie codes that tell us shagging is about to take place or has taken place are missing. No kissing. No double entendres (unless "this may take some time" counts), no post-coital lying in bed with strategically placed covers. The next morning, both girls are fully clothed and fussing over Bond's wardrobe.

What do you think? Are the gypsy girls Bond girls in the truest meaning of the term? Especially, does anyone know what the filmmakers 49 years ago thought of this scene? Or the censors? Because if the censors trimmed some of Bond's dialogue from the end scene in Venice that they though too risque, I would have thought they'd of trimmed this scene too if they thought it was sexual in nature (I mean, threesomes in 1963? Really?!).

I'm not sure what to make of it either. If it were a porn flick it would make a lot of sense that the two gypsies threw aside their conflict for Bond's cock.

I've never seen them as Bond Girls.

Then again, I don't consider every broad Bond bangs a Bond Girl. She has to be one of the main characters too. Eg. I wouldn't consider whats-her-name who Bond meets in Brazil in MR a Bond Girl.

The fact that Largo's men were interrogating her at the time was incidental - at worst, their constantly asking "what is Bond doing now?" just rubbed it in.

Yes. They go out of their way to prove that they are better women and suitable wife candidates for Vavra's son, and since it up to Bond to decide they must do their absolute best...
