| I started this thread specifically to ask a question about music formats, but anything in the future can be discussed.
I'm curious about where music is headed. We started off with the gramophone and vinyl records in the early 1900's...we continued with vinyl for a long time (with radio interspersed throughout)....by the 1970's we were using 8-track tapes....they segued into smaller cassette tapes in the 80's...by the late 80's/early 90's we moved to compact discs...by the early 2000's we started downloading music digitally onto our computers, and now in 2012 everyone is using an Ipod at the gym. Since the industry has moved towards gradually smaller, better quality products, where does music go from the Ipod? Do we get neural implants? Will the music be stored in "the cloud" and we can blink our eyes and have music videos downloaded onto our sunglasses and music into our blue-tooth?
With movies we went from cinema from the late 1800's pretty much all the way up through the 1970's before HBO began to operate. In the late 60's/early 70's theatrically released movies began showing on broadcast television. By the early 80's people began buying VCRs for home entertainment. By the late 90's people began purchasing DVDs, but home entertainment was still the big option. In 2012 we're now streaming a lot of these movies over the Internet with VOD, watching them on our computer or other technological device. What's the next great invention? Memories of movies implanted in our head? |

| Musically, I wish I could just regress to the 80s...I hate the current charts which are run over by R&B and Hip-Hop. I guess that makes me a racist. Future expectations...if the Rapture's not on the immediate cards, I'm waiting for the singularity....estimated arrival, next 20-30 years. - Quote :
- The Singularity is the technological creation of smarter-than-human intelligence. There are several technologies that are often mentioned as heading in this direction. The most commonly mentioned is probably Artificial Intelligence, but there are others: direct brain-computer interfaces, biological augmentation of the brain, genetic engineering, ultra-high-resolution scans of the brain followed by computer emulation. Some of these technologies seem likely to arrive much earlier than the others, but there are nonetheless several independent technologies all heading in the direction of the Singularity – several different technologies which, if they reached a threshold level of sophistication, would enable the creation of smarter-than-human intelligence.

Hip/Hop and rap is *mostly* devoid of any talent, shallow, stupid, and dangerous for young people. So yeah, I'm a racist also. I do think in the areas of sex that we're going to see more and more life-like pleasure robots that people will end up having sex with. They'll replace, but not entirely, human contact. Or we'll have cyber-sex via linked-in helmets and probes attached to man and lady-parts. |

That sounds like an overly broad generalization. I'm assuming most of the hip-hop you're familiar with is stuff on the radio, which is dumb, but so is almost all of the music on the radio. |

| Personally I dabble with the new formats and players but my favourite music experience is still lps and cds, played over one mother of a component sound system (which I do proudly posess), with wall shaking bass yet still clear and not distorted. Just make sure all windows are closed and its not too early in the morning. Not everyone appreciates the awesomeness of the Stones Midnight Rambler Live, at full blast.
As for movies, I like my blu-rays, but I would like to upgrade from the current 40"' LED system. Much much bigger would be best. Preferably Bond and concert dvd's with big sound on a screen the size of the wall. Someday. Problem is, I need to find a free wall. |

| I doubt physical copies of CDs, movies, etc. will exist in 30 years. I'd assume every type of media you'll ever need will be available strictly via computer. |

Maybe so, but they're still a novelty. The masses are buying their music digitally. |

Will that be covered under Medicaid or will people have to pay out-of-pocket for those expenses? Probably best that the physician ask for cash up front in this case. |

You and I will be required to pay for the expense of other people's offing themselves. It's the progressive way. == I've already told my nephews, that when I'm old and incontinent, that they might have to do a seal team raid and get me out of the hospital, before killer doctors can put me down. |
