James Horner.
Hack and a half. I can't stand him or his music that has earned praise after blatantly ripping off great composers.
You'll never see one of his scores in my collection.

I'm not as down on Horner as you Brown. I think FIELD OF DREAMS is a decent score, and as are GLORY, CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER, LEGENDS OF THE FALL, BRAINSTORM, KRULL and WOLFEN. My favourite's probably SNEAKERS.

Horner shamelessly rips-off Prokofiev with that one:
And AVATAR... ... pure shit. I'd rather listen to DIE ANOTHER DAY.

Hawh, this might as well have been called the "James Horner Thread".

Think I'm more irked by individual soundtracks than I am composers. Horner tends to divide down the middle and there's others too. Damned if I cared enough to root through the risible soundtracks (non-Horner that is) for a list.

I enjoy Horner's early stuff Brainstorm, Gorky Park and Search for Spock soundtracks in particular, but thereafter its a case of r4apidly dimisinhing returns and I pretty much despise his work with Cameron. To a slightly leser extent the same is true for me and Alan Silvestri.

BRAINSTORM. James Horner's finest score.

He always does.
Meant to be an absolute prig in person though. Naturally enough I suppose.

The fact he wouldn't cut his price to do TREK VI as a favor for Meyer has always pissed me off, given that TREK II really put him on the map, far more so than BATTLE BEYOND and WOLFEN and 48HRS.

Indeed. I think he was mentioned or asked about Star Trek XI and said he was 'above Star Trek'.

Might have made TREK XI watchable... or maybe just listenable... like what Goldsmith did for FINAL FRONTIER and NEMESHIT.
