The Wachowskis' films are memorably dull.

I didn't think the movie was great, but it was ambitious enough to make me appreciate it on a certain level. It's amazing it got made at all, as I can't imagine audiences embracing something as out there as this yet the studio went for it anyway.

Yes, it's very admirable on the level of "it's cool this got made, and look at how bizarre and different it is, and isn't that nice?" but I don't know how admirable it is as a finished product. A noble failed experiment?

I find the Wachowski's movies are usually like, one or two elements away from greatness. There's this weird fusion of wanting to do big high concept blockbusters but still be really heady and intelligent that I admire, but the intelligence in their films rarely feels earned, instead it feels cribbed or affected, like they go through all the dialogue with a thesaurus after they've written it.

The fabricant recycling plant was suitably creepy.

The trailer looked impressive but unfortunately the movie was boring.

My wife and I went to see it at the theater and after not even 30 min, we lost interest in it.

Totally engaged throughout, poignant and moving. The 3 hours zoomed by.

I sat through the whole thing... granted, on DVD rather than at the cinema. Not a bad film and better than some of the Oscar-nominated fare of 2012. I can admire the visuals and some memorable moments in Cloud Atlas, not to mention the amusing make-up (you think Hugo Weaving looks hilarious as a Korean? try Hugh Grant!), but that's about it. All the moral mumbo-jumbo is just that... mumbo-jumbo. The minority rights preaching is over-the-top and not very sympathetic. I just wasn't moved by that robot-rights movement, the gay musician (granted, Ben Whishaw acted well), or the pensioners' flight to freedom from Weaving dressed as an oversized Nurse Ratched.

One of the few films from this year I can still remember. Must count for something.
