Didn't Milch say in an earlier interview that he knew it was truly over when the sets were torn down?

Well yes. There are those who would argue that the golden age of TV dramas is already past us.
I would tend to agree. Most of the top shows that propelled the medium to new heights date back to the first half of the noughties (or at the very least started out then).
Even though I find Mad Men somewhat overrated, I would be willing to conceded that it is perhaps the last one still around.

It's rather amazing to consider that apart from the first four episodes of the first season, none of this was written in advance. The cast received their lines the day prior to the shoot, sometimes even on the day of the shoot. It's rather incredible that Milch managed such a coherent and strong story from such a seemingly chaotic way of working.

Several more Deadwood alumns on this season of Justified, amongst them Jim Beaver and Stephen Tobolowsky. There's been plenty more in previous seasons.

I would so love for this to be true, but after nine years, it seems too good to be real.

The one thing that gives me some hope is HBO's desperation for content they can stockpile for their on-demand service.

e.g. I don't believe they would pass on "Banshee" under the current climate either.

There is a good chance that "Justified" ended up featuring more than fourteen "Deadwood" alumni. I never bothered to count them, but they must at least number in double digits.

These are the ones I remembered or could find after a quick internet search:

Timothy Olyphant
Jim Beaver
Garret Dillahunt
Pruitt Taylor Vince
Stephen Tobolowsky
Gerald McRaney
W. Earl Brown
Sean Bridgers
Peter Jason
Ray McKinnon
Brent Sexton

Milch is a writer on "True Detective" season 3.
I have more hopes pinned on that as some sort of "Deadwood" follow-up than on a continuation of the actual show, beit in the form of a movie or a season 4.

I'm excited about this but also worried that it might be too late. Several of the original cast members are dead, for one thing.

I wonder when it will be set. I think if they do a timejump, then a rather natural new starting point would be the opening of the new Gem after the first one burned down.

Powers Boothe has gone. Who else?

He's the big one. The actor who played Richardson is also dead, but I guess that isn't such a huge issue for the movie as the lack of Cy Tolliver.
