I imagine I'll be talking to myself here.
Here are some of my favorites:

I know. 'tis a lonely place.
Remember the 40-or-something-page hip-hop bashing thread over on old MI6? I went a bit overboard when comparing the verbal fireworks of MCs at their best to Bach's toccatas and the greatest ever freestyles to Richter's cadenzas. Khanosaurus nearly lost it.

I really don't know shit about hip-hop. But, I like how these sound:
I appreciate the beats, rhythm, and melodies of hip-hop music. However, most of the time, I can't say I appreciate the lyrics. They always seem to be forced and too simple, as if the artist's just desperately looking for ways to make two words rhyme. I think many hip-hop artists working today need to pickup on techniques like assonance and consonance.

I sure do. That turned into quite a shitstorm. I'm hoping that doesn't happen here.

Fair point. There are a lot of simplistic rappers but there are also a lot of them who appreciate the poetry of the genre as well. Common, for example, is one of the more mainstream rappers who does.

Nice choices there Python, though I admit I've never really gotten into 2pac. I find myself wondering if he might be a little overrated because his death but I've been scared to ask in fear of public persecution.

I've only got the Greatest Hits album of his, I don't really plan on getting his other stuff for now as that seems to really be his better work, everything else is take or leave for me. Especially his posthumous albums which only seem to exist to promote other rappers who were probably only six years old when he died.

Been listening to Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle for the past week. These are my favorite tracks:
It's the only album of his that I own and will likely remain that way. He's put out some good tunes in his subsequent albums, but from what I've heard they're rather inconsistent. Doggystyle really benefited from Dr. Dre overlooking it, and I can't imagine another Snoop Dogg album being as good without his involvement. Snoop and Dre really made a great pair as far as lyricists and producers go in the hip-hop genre.

Was put off by Joey Bada$$'s name, but the kid's good. Will be keeping an eye on Pro Era.
These days I've got the most time for Plan B, Wiley, Akala, Ironik, Common, and a few others. Mainly drawn to socially conscious hip-hop.

Anyone here check out Kendrick Lamar's album? Everyone seems enamored by it. It's lyrically strong, sure, but sonically I'm just a bit bored by it.

Kanye's new album, Yeezus, is out today.
It's been polarizing but the critics are eating up. The lyricism isn't the best but the production is next-level and maybe years ahead of the genre.

I do not hip or hop much, but Liam from The Prodigy had this cool little pre-Prod band in the early 90s:
