SKYFALL action sequence at the 1:30 minute mark. SONY and Mendes are going to have to figure out a way to edit some of the action sequences set in Istanbul, as TAKEN appears to have totally trumped them.

| Skyfall will have to go some to top this. Neeson really kicked arse in Taken. Looks like he'll kick some again in Taken 2.
Shame the film doesn't have a subtitle. Not TAKEN UP THE ARSE or anything, just something like TAKEN: THE REVENGE or TAKEN: WITH A VENGEANCE, just something a bit pulp or old school. Something that says THIS FILM WILL KICK ARSE.
Anyone else using a mobile phone looks a bit nerdy. Liam Neeson makes using a mobile phone look hard.
When's this film out? |

| TAKENER? T2KEN? TAKEN: REVENGENCE? TAKEN RELOADED?
Then again, sometimes a simple number or roman numerals is bad ass enough. TAKEN 2 is a title that tells you "Yes, I'm the second TAKEN movie. Yes, Liam Neeson kicks some ass. He kicks ass and you will like him for kicking asses." |

TOKEN When Jackie Chan joins the franchise the film can be called: CHINESE TAKE OUT. I prefer the term "RETAKEN", as it's exactly everything that happened in the first film; doesn't look as if there's any surprises for this film. I mean, the film is so uninspired and by-the-numbers that they couldn't even be bothered to give the film a better title. "TAKEN 2"? Pfffffttttt! |

| Back on-topic, I like that this is a continuation of the first film, rather than the same characters finding themselves in the same situation as the first time around. |

Good one. If it starred Vin Diesel instead of Neeson, they'd have probably gone with that title. I'm not too bothered if the film is by-the numbers. So were the Death Wish films. Actually, quite a few Bond films fall into that trap. This isn't an Oscar-hunting film, so at least it recognises that and plays to it's strengths, ie Liam Neeson kicking a load of arse. |

| Man, this is f*cking great news, didn't even know it was being made yet, let alone on the way soon. Last I heard it was just a possibility.
Once more Bryan Mills will show EON how it's done. Bryan Mills and Taken are exactly the kind of asskickery Bond could be under Craig if those dumbass producers hadn't ridiculously shackled him to his grandmother and continuallly delude themselves into thinking Bond is high-end psychological drama which, in their moronic hands, always plays out more like bad soap. As someone else said, Taken kicks arse because it knows it's limitations and it knows it's strengths; it's never gonna be winning any BAFTAs or anything, they know that all too well. They have a leading man who kicks major ass, socially relevant storylines rendered in a no-nonsense, non-soapish and impactfully direct way and, as important as anything, these films know that they are simply dynamic thrillers with occasional impactful fight scenes, something Bond used to be until the mix became botched and polluted with Dench, "emotion", pop psychology, drama directors, amateur scriptwriters etc.
The action film of the year is here. |

| Some truth to that among the bombast there Laze, I must admit. Of the trailers for each film, TAKEN looks set to deliver the straightahead impact which made the original popular, while Bond looks a bit more of an unknown quantity in whether or not the series' more fantastical elements can mesh comfortably within what seems on paper to be the most dramatic and emotional film of the series. I think Bond should be more than just merely a vigilante though. |

| Mills is more than just a vigilante. He's you, he's me. An everyday man forced to confront the kind of awful bastards and fears which live on the dark edges of or within our society. That's why Lazenby was a f*cking brilliant Bond; he could have been you or me, just a believable human being with skills required for his job but by no means some kind of superman. Bryan Mills is the best cinematic hero since.... well, f*ck knows when. Because he's relevant. He's doing what every parent in the country wants to do, to get rid of bastards and threats to society and his family and just be able to live in peace with that family. These films show us just how much we've missed proper male heroes since the 1980s, back when men were men.

| Sure there were some proper male heroes in the 80s, i.e. Robert McCall, Dalton's Bond, Martin Riggs, Ronald Craven etc. But there was also way too many preening, baby-oiled, supermen. I love Arnold (not so much Sly), but he's as far from an everyman as you could get. TBH, I don't think Bond should be one either. He should be somewhere in between real life and far-out fantasy, which is sort of what Mendes said a while back. |

| Was disappointed with Taken 2...first one was much better. Seems like he was up against a bunch of amateurs who spent more time watching FIFA soccer on their lousy tv sets than giving his wife or daughter a hard time.
Grade: C
I can't even think of a memorable scene.
