Let's hope that in a few years time, you can say "I like all the Bond films from DN - TND" then ;) |

| Moore's tenure:
1) For Your Eyes Only: Beats the piss out of every other Moore flick at everything. One of the best Bonds ever, not even Bibi can prevent that. 2) The Spy Who Loved Me: Lack of a menacing villian and Barbara Bach doing her best tree impression hurts Spy. The final third is dynamite. 3) Live And Let Die: Solid, but nothing special. Boat chase is the standout, other set pieces less so. 4) Moonraker: Ridiculous and outlandish, but in a hilariously entertaining way. 5) Octopussy: Lacks cohesiveness, as the two halves of the film are at odds with each other. Entertaining, but would have worked better if the filmmakers stuck with one approach. 6) A View To A Kill: Boring, with only Walken as a standout 7) The Man With The Golden Gun: Boring, dreary, and painfully low scale for a Bond flick. Lee is the only saving grace. |

| 1. FOR YOUR EYES ONLY I find it sharp and entertaining. It's a bit more toned down than the 70's Bonds (which is good). There are plenty of genuinely tense moments. It's quite underrated on the whole. Moore's Bond feels a tad more world-weary than we've been accustomed to. He's still got the wit and charm, but he's a bit deadlier here too. Bill Conti is da shiz. The score is upbeat, edgy, and exciting. Fiddler On The Roof guy is also good. The scene where Bond goes rock climbing is, as far as I'm concerned, one of the best, tensest, most thrilling sequences in the whole series. I don't know if it's really been surpassed by any Bondian cliffhanger (*snort*) since. 2. A VIEW TO A KILL I'm one of the many people who loathed this film before being converted. Moore is old, but he still makes the ladies swoon. Anyone who disagrees is a pathetic waffler. And a Communist. It's got Christopher Walken, angry black woman, Tanya Roberts in a short bathrobe, and an old Nazi who wields dynamite like Wile E. Coyote. It's fun and ridiculous. Barry's score is fucking superb. I could listen to "He's Dangerous" for hours on end. 3. THE SPY WHO LOVED ME A grandiose ride. Moore-Bond comes into his own. Bach is as exciting as a plank though. So is fish man. Naomi's rack saves the film. 4.THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN Not the strongest film, but Mankiewicz helps out. The fun and legendary wit are there in spades. Moore gives a good performance as a more arsehole-ish Bond. The scene with Maud Adams in the hotel room stands out. Lee is pretty good. The midget is pretty short. The kung fu school stuff and the redneck cop can fuck right off though. Solid effort overall. 5. MOONRAKER An alright, pulp-ish adventure. The space bits... yeah, I dunno. It's kinda unforgivable. 6. LIVE AND LET DIE Nostalgia value aside, there's just something off. All the voodoo crap I guess. The much loved boat chase is, for me, about three-and-a-half hours too long. Sherrif Jay Seven Pepper is one of the worst characters in the Bond cinematic canon. He serves no purpose other than to irritate. Moore is OK in his debut, but is perhaps lacking the spark he later developed. 7. OCTOPUSSY Not bad, but I find it rather bland. There's little that's memorable here for me, outside of that apparently waaacist chase through the streets. Caramel Khan is probably the weakest villain of the series outside of the French toad in QOS. |

And a belated thanks to Groucho, whose post in this thread I'd never noticed until now.

| Never thought to rank the films by era before, but here goes...
TSWLM LALD TMWTGG OP MR FYEO AVTAK
It's not easy to rank the first three - for me it's more like a three-way tie with OP coming in second. And personally, I think FYEO is the better film, but there's something bonkers about MR that makes it more entertaining overall.
