Whenever there will be a significant change to the site, or a temporary interruption in service, the administrator can inform members about it in this thread.

PostSubject: Moderators   Site Announcements EmptyThu Mar 17, 2011 11:41 am

Moderation of the forums

In order to allow people more control over the sections they're most knowledgeable or passionate about, we'll be spreading some more Moderator positions across the forums. I've had a few suggestions from Lazenby with regards to what many of the members here are experts on or interested in, and I've had a quick look through the forums to see which members are posting more in certain sections than in others.

So there'll be quite a few more Moderator appointments over the next day or two, which will hopefully help people feel more involved, trusted and of equal standing in the forums, but will hopefully also give as many people as possible the chance to keep the sections of the forums they care about running as smoothly and well-organised as possible. With any luck, we'll be able to find a Moderator position of some kind for everyone here, that's the intention.

May I also just take this opportunity to publicly thank our first-appointed Moderators for their help over the last few days. They've helped make the forums look much more streamlined, uncluttered and presentable through their many ideas and organising, and their help is very much appreciated. Many thanks too to our members as well for some great input and of course for keeping the posts coming in.

With regards to the Moderator positions, if anyone has any problems or questions, please feel free to send me a PM, anytime.

Thanks again

M

PostSubject: Logging In   Site Announcements EmptyWed Jun 15, 2011 9:52 pm

Having had a few discussions with members via PM about the visibility of the site and whether or not members should need to log in to view the forums, I've decided to leave the forums visible at all times in the hope that members can just take five seconds of their time to log in every time they visit here.

The reasons for this are very simple: If the forums are locked, then potential new members coming across this place (or having been invited) won't have a clue what they're signing up for if they register, which may see them erring on the side of caution and simply not registering. Alternatively, by having the forums open but having hardly any members logged in can give the impression of a less busy forum which most people don't bother logging into.

For reasons I've gone into via my PMs with some members, I can't keep going backwards and forwards with the visibilty of the forums, it's very time consuming as each section of the forums has to have it's visibility settings changed individually until the whole thing is done. The most logical solution is to leave the forums visible in an attempt to attract new members, but we need the help of each and every single member here in order to make these forums an attractive proposition to potential new members to make them register rather than simply think "Oh, everyone else is just browsing as a guest, I'll just do the same".

It's five seconds of your time to simply log in when you visit, whether you intend to post or not. It's not asking a lot for people to do this. And obviously if people can try to post as well, then great.

At the end of the day, the forums will only thrive if we all pull together and make it happen. Members logging in whenever they can is a good start. At least then, if someone decides to make a post, they'll know there's at least a good chance someone who's logged in will respond to it. And more activity will likely lead to more people registering, which is what we really need right now.

It's sad to see members receiving warnings elsewhere for trying to promote these forums but, to their credit, that's what you could call "taking one for the team", an act of commitment towards trying to improve these forums at that person's own expense. I'd never suggest getting yourself banned or warned at other forums for promoting these forums, but if you see a safe opportunity to promote Bond And Beyond, please try and take the time to do so. These forums will rely a lot on word of mouth, but that can't happen if people are silent or hiding as inactive browsers. Also, choosing to remain a "hidden member" here is fairly pointless, as the forums have around 20 or so moderators of some sort or other, to whom any "hidden members" are clearly visible in the memberlist. Let's show our support by actually showing our presence here.

So again, the long and the short of it is that just five seconds of your time is at the very least all that's being asked of you. Please try and log in when you visit.

I'll also just take this opportunity to thank all of the members here who are really contributing, as there's many posters here well into their hundreds on their post counts. Brilliant work, these forums wouldn't be what they are without you and it's always a pleasure reading the boards here. Let's keep it that way.

Regards,

M

Just a quick thanks to everyone who posted here last month, we reached over 4000 posts for only the third time in the 2+ years the forums have been operational. With a new Bond film still 7 or 8 months away but the forums already healthy, it's a great platform to build upon. Again, many thanks to all of our posters here for doing a truly superb job in sustaining this place, and often during quieter times. With expansion plans in the works, this place will hopefully be absolutely huge by the time the year is out. The aim? World domination, of course.

"Skyfall Anticipation" added to user profiles, feel free to fill this in with either a word or a percentage, it will then display beneath your avatar.

Could we get some reorganization done in the BEYOND section? We need a section devoted to Books, just as Music, Movies, and Television all have their own forums. I wanted to talk about a non-Bond book I just read, but couldn't find a place to properly put the post.....until I did a lot of digging and searching using that search engine thingy. I"m too old, lazy, and tired to do my own research. Let's put a Books section back in the BEYOND Forum pwease.
