I am unpleased.

Honestly, despite having only appeared in 3 movies, a television series, an animated series and a TV movie mini-series (actually, that's a lot of stuff), I consider the RoboCop suit pretty iconic, on par with Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, etc. The original suit's design was really clever and subtle in what it was achieving visually, and I consider certain elements to be kind've essential just in order to visually signify that it's RoboCop and not, say, the heroes in the upcoming PACIFIC RIM or something.

For example, the visor.

Honestly, this thing is like a Batman costume without the ears on the cowl.

I keep thinking this is a visual reminder the movie is called ROBOCOP INTO DARKNESS.

It's just so nothing, it is the robot equivalent of TREK'S pastel TMP uniforms.

It's so generic looking, like there should be fifty of them getting easily shot down by a group of rebel freedom fighters.

Also, it just straight up looks like a dude in a suit, they've made no effort to disguise the man-like shapes. The original suit was genius in the way it subtly used different shapes to suggest an unnatural body.

The way the arms are sculpted makes you think of the arms as more rectangular than round, and the suit/Weller puts them at these odd angles to make them seem like pieces of machinery.

This just looks like a dude. In a suit. It reminds me of those power suits from the GI JOE movie I never saw.

I'm more impressed by what Weller wore BEFORE he was shot than I am with this shit.

Hmmm ... following in Man Of Steel's 'reboot with main character in questionable-looking version of their iconic outfit' wake, then.

I guess that explains the curious case of the disappearing Bat suit parts from 'The dark Knight Rises' set.

I've heard elsewhere that the red 'strip' seen in one of those pics is a moving-from-side-to-side thing, kinda like KITT's scanner in the original Knight Rider (or the Cylon visors in the original Battlestar Galactica, if memory serves) :| .

So I was looking at the Wikipedia page for this film, and do you know what name I saw credited as screenwriter?

Joshua Zetumer.

So that pretty much killed whatever enthsiasm I might have had for it.

Yay! Just like they did with TOTAL RECALL, they took out all the humor and replaced it with shit.

Also, no Kurtwood Smith, no deal.

I will watch the film, once it comes out on DVD, but the theaters will not be getting my money for this bastardization with RoboCop's name on it.

And it's all because of that fucking hand.

Other than Samuel L. Jackson, this movie looks as fun as a sweaty teabag.

Well, the supporting cast is pretty sound. Jackson, Michael Keaton, Gary Oldman, even Miguel Ferrer from the original, but other than that...

I revisited ROBOCOP 2. It's a mess, but I do enjoy it in the end. I feel like Weller is kind of sidelined, so I'm savoring any moment he's around when not being off-screen or replaced by a animatronic puppet. Leonard Rosenman's score is also kind of a nice alternative take to giving RoboCop a theme, or at least the kind of music he brings, it fits like a glove as much as Poledouris.

I'll wager the remake is even worse than this.

Picked up the DVD of the original in Sainsbury's last weekend for £3, watched the Director's Cut on it during the week ... still pulpy, satirical ultra-violent funtimes (complete with extra-splattery version of the 'ED 209 malfunctions in the OCP boardroom' scene).

The reboot is a 12A, so doubtless a load of watered-down shit.
