Suggestions for someone's first horror film

There's a girl I know who's never watched a horror film. She wants to watch one with me, and I have the opportunity to pick the title. I'd like her first viewing to be a really good one.

Do any of you have some recommendations?

Off the top of my head, I thought: THE WICKER MAN, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, THE THING, and even ALIEN.

Go with The Shining (not the ABC shitfest)...I'm sure she's heard of Stephen King. Plus, it has a fairly long running time so you get to spend more time with her.

Then there's disturbing shit like Martyrs...

ROSEMARY'S BABY might be a good one. I don't know what her threshold for gore is.
