Anyone seen this? It seems to be getting good reviews. It also looks like a grown-up movie, which is increasingly rare. I am going to try and see it just for Gandolfini's presence.

Haven't seen it yet, but Armond hates it.
Armond White wrote:
Another Dennis Lehane carnival of urban clichés, The Drop uses the story of a quiet, lonely Brooklyn barkeep, Bob Malinowski (Tom Hardy), who outwits the criminals, the cops, and the people around him, for a fable that is sinister, sentimental, ironic, and worthless.
Based on Lehane’s short story “Animal Rescue” (which became the intro to his novelization The Drop), the film belongs to the same trash heap as Hollywood’s other Lehane adaptations such as Gone Baby Gone and Mystic River. It transfers those Boston-based tales to New York, the epicenter of current miscreant mythology. It’s a confabulation of news media, publishing, TV, and Hollywood industries, where hardboiled fiction and urban crime are combined into cheap and trite storytelling (what the book industry calls thrillers) and has become a new dark brand of Americana.
I thought "Gone Baby Gone" was enjoyable. Did not care for "Mystic River". "Shutter Island" had its merits. His work on Boardwalk Empire last season was also worthwhile.

I'm afraid that after having seen it, I have to agree with his appraisal of the writing. Tom Hardy is pretty good though. Not sure if that alone justifies the cost of buying a ticket.

He's not really my type, Ambler. I also noticed for the first time that he appears to be rather short.

I don't know what they told you at convent school, Oppers, but you can still get pregnant even if you do it standing up.

Hardy is one of the finest actors working today. LOCKE convinced me of that.

It's one of those gimmicky stunt performances (like RAGING BULL, THE MACHINIST etc.), though a very fine one.

I'll be checking it out. I love Hardy, but all my attention is probably going to be on Jimmy Gandolfini. And amen Shark, Locke was a brilliant film. Hardy gave an outstanding performance.

LOCKE's genre just isn't my cup of tea personally. I don't have the patience, usually, for really static films like that devoted to a stunt. So with that in mind the fact that I did mildly enjoy it speaks to the film's strengths.
Quite liked THE DROP. The ending (the tacked on ending) was the only thing I'm not sure about.
