PostSubject: Justice League Parts 1 and 2 (2017, 2019)   Thu Oct 16, 2014 8:44 am

Zack Snynder will direct the first two installments of the Justice League features, set to release in two parts in 2017 and 2019, WB announced today.

http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20141015006276/en/Warner-Bros.-Details-Strategic-Content-Plans-Time#.VD7oq1tH0b3

Also, here's DC's slate thru 2020, per the press release:

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, directed by Zack Snyder (2016)
Suicide Squad, directed by David Ayer (2016)
Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot (2017)
Justice League Part One, directed by Zack Snyder, with Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Amy Adams reprising their roles (2017)
The Flash, starring Ezra Miller (2018)
Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa (2018)
Shazam (2019)
Justice League Part Two, directed by Zack Snyder (2019)
Cyborg, starring Ray Fisher (2020)
Green Lantern (2020)

WB also said standalone Superman and Batman films will come during that time.

Looks like DC is doing its best to emulate the Marvel approach of introducing characters to a point, but I'm not sure yet that it's not rushed. Also not sure that Zack Snyder is to DC what Joss Whedon is to Marvel, but it seems like he's carved himself out a little niche that suits him well.

God, that's a depressing list. I like Zack Snyder and MAN OF STEEL, but to me that was a one-off.

I genuinely feel sorry for the fans of these films and characters. Snyder is absolute shit.

It'd be like Brett Ratner directing a Bond film. Or Michael Bay adapting a le Carre novel.

I haven't seen Man of Steel, and I absolutely hated 300, but I'm part of the crowd that liked Watchmen quite a bit. I dunno. I guess I'm pretty split on Snyder, though I should probably see Man of Steel before venturing any kind of prediction on how the Justice Leagues will turn out.

That said, I have a hard time seeing they'll be disastrous based on precedent. Snyder seems to be good at the thing he does, and I don't see him taking too terribly a turn for the worse as long as that thing doesn't involve retreading Chris Nolan's thing. I do think the Justice Leagues will need to be some semblance of stylish to set them apart from what Marvel's doing, and while The Avengers was good at what it set out to do, stylish it ain't. That's an area where Snyder can lend his hand.

Snyder is a joyless one-trick pony who takes himself seriously to a ridiculous degree. His more personal movies (e.g. Sucker Punch) make me question if he is not an emotional cripple.

It's rather amusing that Marvel trotted out a bunch of third tier characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy and made a fortune off them whilst DC is still afraid of giving Wonder Woman her own movie, whilst she is their most high profile superhero after Superman and Batman.

Warners were going to green light Wonder Woman, Ops, then you changed your avatar and they panicked.

To be fair, Marvel had to trot out third tier characters because that's all they have to work with, and they don't have the bigger titles like Spider-Man. DC, on the other hand, does not have their own studio like Marvel. WB is who's in charge, and they aren't so dependent on making DC projects like Marvel Studios. They've only just started looking seriously into DC properties once the Harry Potter series was finished.

Also DC could foresee the box office and Variety's headline:

'Warners Whips Wonder Woman: Titan Tanks Tits-up'

I thought you'd like Wonder Woman Ambler. She is famous for her early incarnation being thinly veiled bondage porn. Hence why she even had the lasso of truth.

Someone more versed in comic book history than me (Dog Bond!) could probably tell you how they got that stuff around the Comics Code.

That was probably before the Comics Code, which didn't form until the 50s. I guess the 40s was sort of a no man's land for superhero comics.

I know the mild sexual innuendo associated with the Catwoman character meant that she all but disappeared completely during the Code era.

It was that panel showing her litter tray that did it.

SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing about Ben Affleck as Batman has sounded even remotely interesting. I still think this was a huge miscast on the part of Warner Brothers, but I'm willing to admit I'm wrong, so we'll see when the first trailer comes out. I've tried giving this Dawn of Justice film every chance to impress me that I can, but every casting decision they make just leaves me depressed. Jason Momoa looks nothing like Aquaman. And now the latest news is that not only will Robin in the movie, but the character will be played by Jenna Malone oh my! I am so $*(&(*& sick of these Hollywood casting decisions that totally change a character's race or gender in order to be, at the very least, "cutting edge", but more than likely a latent form of political correctness.

Warner Brother's track record isn't great, so I'll believe these films will actually hit theaters when I see it. Cyborg, Green Lantern, Shazam....could all end up being straight-to-blu-ray (or streaming, I guess). And why would anyone want to watch The Flash on the big screen when there's a tv show currently on with the same character?

Jenna Malone playing Robin isn't a Hollywood thing. In case you don't know, there are multiple Robins that came after Dick Grayson: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternative_versions_of_Robin

Most are suspecting that Malone will be Carrie Kelly, given that Snyder has talked about using The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel as an inspiration for the film.

As for Jason Momoa, I don't mind his casting. He at least looks like someone who could be the king of the seas, especially from the Pacific ocean. Who cares if he isn't white bread?

It's been pretty clear from the beginning that this feature would be Snyders adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns. Since Snyder proved with Watchmen that he does not understand that an adaptation to another medium should not follow the source material so closely that it hurts the quality of the feature (and Snyder hammered a lot of square pegs into round holes for Watchmen), I never had any doubt that the Robin character would be a young woman.

As far as I'm concerned, Robin was, is, and should always be a young, white male in a questionable relationship with Bruce Wayne. But anyway...

I already pre-hate this movie for all the reasons listed, plus a few others. And didn't Warners initially lie about what the movie Batman vs. Superman was going to be about? It's clearly a JLA movie. I think Ben Affleck is all wrong for the part. I think the Wonder Woman costume looks like something that was nicked out of a garbage dumpster on the set of XENA: Warrior Princess. Jessie Eisenberg all wrong as Lex Luthor.

Maybe I'm wrong, but either Batman vs. Superman and The Fantastic Four are going to be huge hits....or terrible failures. No in between.

I think Affleck is fine for the role.

Eisenberg was an eyebrow raiser, but giving more thought to it and being reminded of THE SOCIAL NETWORK, he's actually perfect for Lex Luthor if they're going to go for the CEO businessman. I could believe this guy would be arrogant and condescending enough to look up at Superman and not be intimidated, because as far as he's concerned, Superman is nothing more than an impotent beach boy flexing his muscles to the crowd. I think he'll do for Lex Luthor what Ledger did for the Joker.
