What quotes make you laugh, smile, flinch in appreciation of the mercilessness of the villains. What are your favourites?

From the fantastic script of Thunderball:

"Do you mind if my friend sits this one out? She's just dead!" - James Bond

"I think he got the point!" - James Bond

"Aren't you in the wrong room, Mister Bond?" - Fiona Volpe
"Well, not from where I'm standing" - James Bond

"I'm glad I killed him" - Dominique 'Domino' Derval
"You're glad?!" - James Bond

"So, what sharp little eyes you have" - Dominique 'Domino' Derval
"Wait 'till you get to my teeth" - James Bond

"That looks more suited for a woman" - James Bond
"You know about guns, Mister Bond?" - Emilio Largo
"No, but I know a little about women!" - James Bond

The script for Thunderball was sharp, witty, and on the ball.

Yep. I love Connery's performance and Barry's mischievous score as Bond jams Lippe in the steam thing and says "Don't worry, I'll tell the chef". Great stuff. 8)

Some more of my favourite lines, this time from Tomorrow Never Dies:

"Filthy habit" - James Bond

"I never knew how I'd feel if I ever saw you again. [Slap] Now I know. Was it something I said?" - James Bond
"How about the words I'll be right back?" - Paris Carver
"Something came up" - James Bond
"Something always came up"

"What is he doing?" - Admiral Roebuck
"His job!" - M

"With all due respect, M, sometimes, I don't think you have the balls for this job!" - Admiral Roebuck
"Perhaps, but the advantage is I don't have to think with them all the time" - M

"Wait! I'm just a professional doing a job!" - Doctor Kaufman
"Me too" - James Bond

"There's no news, like bad news!" - Elliot Carver

"Delicious" - Elliot Carver

"I thought you'd pay more attention to a female voice" - Q
"I think we've met" - James Bond

M: This is about trust. You said you weren't motivated by revenge.
James Bond: I am motivated by my duty.
M: No... I think you're so blinded by inconsolable rage that you don't care who you hurt. When you can't tell your friends from your enemies, it's time to go.

I rather liked the teachers gag. A minor laugh which somehow turned out to be the best one in the film, but still a good 'un.

Just a few of my favorites from Diamonds Are forever.

Mr. Wint: The scorpion.
Mr. Kidd: One of nature's finest killers, Mr. Wint.
Mr. Wint: One is never too old to learn from a master, Mr. Kidd.

Sir Donald Munger: Tell me, Commander, how far does your expertise extend into the field of diamonds?
James Bond: Well, hardest substance found in nature, they cut glass, suggests marriage, I suppose it replaced the dog as the girl's best friend. That's about it.
M: Refreshing to hear that there is one subject you're not an expert on!

James Bond: Weren't you a blonde when I came in?
Tiffany Case: Could be.
James Bond: I tend to notice little things like that - whether a girl is a blonde or a brunette.
Tiffany Case: Which do you prefer?
James Bond: Well, as long as the collar and cuffs match...

Tracy: Teresa was a saint. I'mm known as Tracy.

Bond: Well, Tracy, next time play it safe and stand on five.

Tracy: People who want to stay alive play it safe.

Bond: Please stay alive. At least for tonight.

chiefly Bond's stay alive line, how he delivers it but the whole exchange has something to it quote-wise.

If these were the Bond moves of my cinema going adolescense I think I would have gone to the can for a wizz during these scenes (I'm talking the hectoring Dench scenes) and picked up another large coke and box of popcorn on the way back.
As it was, during Bond double bills, I would stock up with extra popcorn and pop, because once the movie started I was riveted, and some of the most tense moments of my entire life, were standing in that damn popcorn line, between features panicking that the slow as molasses counter help wouldn't get to me before the movie started.
I even squeaked at the theatre manager once in my impatient 12 year old voice to get behind the counter and speed things up. I couldn't bare the thought of misssing the gunbarrel. :)

But in the Babs/Craig era I think my 12 year old self would have a lot more patience. "Take your time pouring the coke. I don't want foam. No worries as there is no gunbarrel and he looks real stupid in that flower shirt hopping around on cranes. I just want to be back in my seat in time for Solange on her horse. ;)

Yep. Tom Mankiewicz certainly provided the wittiest of Bond screenplay dialogue for DAF. He would later do quite well with the Richard Donner Superman films.

Paula Kaplan: "Well, it's not what I'd call contact. I'll pass it through you've seen the girl."

These two were worth the price of admission. They were right out of Batman but far deadlier. They delivered their repartee with such earnestness. Tension builds throughout the film for the inevitable showdown with Sean and when it finally comes, its a bombe surpise laugh Great finish to one of the most entertaining films ever made.
Bruce Glover is a very talented actor as well. He had a very significant role in the Buford Pusser classic Walking Tall, (which was released around the same time as DAF) with future Bond star Joe Don Baker. Glover played Pusser's loyal deputy.

I remember as a kid watching DAF. When the deadly duo arrived to serve Bond and Tiff, I sat straight up. OK these guys are finally gonna get it now. As you get older though that scene is more about the deft banter between Bond and Wint.
Tom Mank was an immensely talented dialogue writer. Eon needs to find another Tom Mank, instead of employing hacks like the Haggfish.

You could quote pretty much any line from DAF and I'd agree, but plenty of Tiffany Case's lines tickle me just right.

Quote :
Tiffany: Keep leaning on that tooter, Charlie, and you're gonna get a shot in the mouth!

Quote :
Tiffany: Blow up your pants!

ambler wrote:

Big words! Shucks, this dialogue sure must be smart!
