I did not pay to see SPECTRE. I had free tickets and used those. I suppose I might have gone and seen it anyway, even if I had to pay, but even seeing it for free I still felt cheated. SPECTRE was the first Bond film I've never financially supported (and I've been to them all on opening day since Octopussy). Still don't own it on home video, and have only seen it once since the one time I saw it in the theater. If for some reason EON hires Idris Elba (or any other non-white actor for that matter) it'll just make my decision easier by removing any internal conflict in my mind as to whether I should see it or not (I won't). I've already got a leg out the front door; making substantial changes to the character of Bond will all the final push I'll need. I'll take my money and go spend it on some other franchise.

If Craig goes back for one more, I think it pushes Elba and Fassbender out as future contenders based on age alone. Elba's really already too old to take over a franchise that's only pumping out a new movie about once every 3 years. Won't have enough time at that rate to make his mark in the series before he is let go. Fassbender is on the bubble, and can't really afford to wait either.

Assuming a "reboot" happens after Bond 25, we're probably not looking at another new film until 2023. That puts Elba and Fassbender out. Hiddleston and Aidan Turner on the edge. pftt

Hilarious Mirror article just surfaced.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/new-james-bond-movie-shatterhand-10895860

People get paid to make this stuff up? I should commission them, to write a novel.

Hilarious indeed although they made a grave error. That synopsis makes it sound far too plot and action focused for it to be the story of a Daniel Craig Bond film. They should have thrown in a bit about Bond going rogue and finding out his First Cousin, twice-removed is really the main villain for more authenticity.

Story does read like they took that snippet from earlier in the year about location-scouting in Croatia and just speculatively ran with it. As far as I know the series has pretty much ignored Benson's novels up to now, so Bond 25 being an adaptation of one seems unlikely.

Wouldn't mind Shatterhand as the title though, another little bit of previously-unused Fleming making it onscreen is fine by me.

I agree. Although if we get the title Shatterhand then it would along with the direction from SPECTRE present the best opportunity for EON to adapt the climax of You Only Live Twice's novel to the screen. If they really want to give Craig a memorable final film then something based on the Garden of Death would be absolutely perfect plus Blofeld's depiction in that novel would give Christoph Waltz a lot more to work with.

The above has spilt over to The Sun as well.

Either way, 2 years is a hell of a wait. blink

Exactly. Relations by way of cousin has yet to be explored in nu-Bond.

I, too, would like the Shatterhand title, but it should be a faithful, though contemporary adaptation of Fleming's YOLT.

That means, we should hold off until Craig and Waltz are gone, since we're going to associate sibling rivalry into the mix, and that's not Fleming's YOLT.

Any desire I may have had to see YOLT's Garden of Death sequence adapted went out the window when they made Ernie Blowjob Bond's brother-from-another-mother-and-father. Also, I don't think you can do justice to a revenge against Blofeld plot in a timeline where he didn't murder Tracy and, frankly, I don't want to see a remake of OHMSS.

So let's just pretend nuFeld never happened or simply pretend that he remains incarcerated following the events of SPRECTUM.

Bond is featured on superhero hype with the rest of the heroes so that community does represent a considerable chunk of the pie.

There's an article floating about suggesting that Purity is being pushed back because of Craig's commitment to Bond 25 - supposedly with direct quotes from the Showtime CEO.

I find it hard to believe that Craig is going to do Bond 25 first before shooting something else that he's been committed to since early 2016, considering the physical toll it takes on him, and wanting a break after SP.

Probably more accurately, perhaps I just hope not.

Then is that ridiculous rumour that Craig and Mendes had creative differences on the SP set. I'd believe it more if it was about Rachel Weisz.

Well on balance that is a better eventuality than waiting for Purity to complete and then have Craig even more craggy and fed up drop into Bond.

He's no longer Bond in my eyes after his slash wrist shitfest, just a $150m whore if the rumour is true.

He has to work really hard to make me forget that one, but would probably tell me to fuck off while he enjoys his pay day.

My temper is subject to revision.

Totally justified and at the risk of sounding like a broken record, I agree entirely.

Sidenote: Has gone far too long without comment of your avatar. I approve.

During an appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight, Craig confirmed that he will indeed return for a fifth and final outing as 007 in BOND 25.

Sad news. He'll be 51 during shooting, and he already looks 55. I said in another thread, I'm hoping that  negotiations break down or there will be creative differences that will lead to his departure.

What do you think coco? I've only really seen you post in the fanfic threads, and don't know much else about your tastes.

Your math is a bit off, FieldsMan. Craig is 49 now, which means he'll be 50 when they're filming next year. And I disagree as far as Craig's appearance goes--I think he looks great. I'm glad Craig will get to leave on a high note--he himself said as such during the interview. That tells me knew Spectre could have been much better so I have high expectations for Bond 25. Now that we have a release date and actor confirmed I imagine a director announcement will soon follow.

As far as I am concerned he's had one high note in 4 not a good record and worse the overarching need to link his tenure knowing this will be his last is going to be even more intrusive than ever. While I still feel the problem is more a production one than down to the actor the ability to change direction with him in place is lost...another navel gazing sub-Bourne adventure is where we are headed methinks. Very sad.

They won't start shooting till December 2018 or January 2019 if the schedules of the last Bond films are anything to go by. IIRC, his birthday is in March, so he'll be about half way through filming when he turns 51.

The recognition that SP wasn't a high point of the series is interesting though, but I agree with lachesis. One great film and three mediocre ones doesn't quite tickle me.

Me too.

I will remain optimistic that a lot can change in the next 2.5 years. Craig seems the temperamental type to up and leave if he doesn't like the script, or embarrasses himself because he can't keep it up when in bed with Babs.
