hi

I'm new here

I'm pretty much a casual viewer of the bond films but i was searching for information on The Spy Who Loved Me as I'm doing a unit on the Cold War and its' impact on popular culture for my university. I'm a mature-age student.

We're a very tolerant group, you shouldn't worry about conversing in the open.

Gravity's Silhouette would be particularly happy to discuss your situation.

Is paulmoorsfield the real Michael G. Wilson, posting from his boarded up basement, where he spends time shadowboxing, plotting revenge and attempting to tunnel his way out?

That might explain some of what I've read.

Maybe it's Lazenby.

We're not MI6 or CBn. If you upset us, we can live with it, so don't be afraid to express an unpopular opinion.

Yeah, this place isn't to be taken too seriously.

If you need proof of that, just read most of the posts in the Black Bond thread. hello - new here XvhYsfz hello - new here XvhYsfz hello - new here XvhYsfz

MI6 is terrible, with its "all ideas are good ideas, and anyobe who dislikes them us disruptive" approach. And CBn is run by a cynical, snarky arsehole who wouldn't last five minutes if he had to follow the rules.

Still, they're not the worst-run forums on the internet. That dishonour goes to Joe Saward's F1 Blog, which is run by a guy who claims to be the only professional journalist in the sport, but cannot take any criticism, even when his obvious conflicts of interest show up, when he commits libel for the sake of pursuing a personal vendetta, or when he engages in a battle to the death over increasingly-lower stakes with another journalist.

Presumably you've had run-ins with all of them, then?

I saw what just happened to you at the Cbn site: if you had been previously banned, why on Earth would you go back there? Why dignify them with a need to use their site? Makes them the winners, even if they're all losers.

I'm over what happened at Mi6.

If I could say "fuck", post images of tits and openly admit that I think CASINO ROYALE is a piece of shit, then I'd probably post there. The kids are a nuisance, too.

I like that everyone's free to speak their mind here, as good or as bad as it is sometimes. The administration and lack of maintenance will cause this ship to sink, though. When SPECTRE blows by, we probably won't be in touch with each other for another two years or so--if we're lucky.

I think that's the ultimate fate of any internet forum, really. They grow and they grow, and unless the admins have a plan to deal with it, things fall apart.

One of the first forums I joined was Bored of Studies, which was originally a resource for students in their final years of school. But members stuck around after graduating and the admins had no idea how to manage it, and now the forums are a trollocracy.

When I joined F1 Fanatic, it was a hobbyist blog. But then the owner quit his job to run it full time, and it developed a reputation for quality journalism - and with it came an influx of new members. Now the only way to be a member is to share the community opinion on certain subjects, because if you don't, the community target you and it's easier for the admins to ban you than it is to ban the troublemakers.

As for MI6, the forums rapidly grew in size and membership first with the production of CR and later QOS, but the admins had no plans for how to deal with it, and we got the baffling policies of moving the forums without archiving anything, and the attitude of "nobody can disagree with anybody". Likewise CBn, which has no rules except for whatever the admins feel like at the time.

That's what makes BAB so good - the moderators don't feel the need to micro-manage everything and understand that members can disagree without being disruptive as a matter of course.

Sleep deprivation. I haven't had any meaningful sleep in four days. I wound up on CBn, didn't recognise it because of the change in colours, and reregistered.

I like forums that are actually open for discussions rather than ones that desperately restrict everyone to one thought or one opinion...there is a very nasty and dangerous trend these days to pretend certain views are 'impossible to hold' and therefore never allow them to surface, but discussion is good, even when no agreement is reached some element of thought or nugget of self doubt can emerge to make a long term change. B&B may be the last bastion in terms of mainstream Bond, ironically a franchise that was cheerfully non PC (and knowingly fantasy as opposed to reality) is increasingly being perverted to conform, pretention of realism and grit actually a tool used to censor and bind the whole damn show. We all hold opinions for a reason, some are valid some need to be aired and challenged, some are better ignored - we all have an ignore function and it requires no code at all - if people choose not to exert it as far as I am concerned they are just as much to blame for the resultant drama and stress as the person making the outrageous (in their opinion) statement that prompted it.

The problem is that this forum has an active membership of just 30 so when one guy uses every thread to make general points about his objections to blacks, women, homosexuals and anyone who's not American, it becomes not just tedious but odious. Tainted by association.

I haven't actually noted that but I suspect that's my excellent auto-discrimination of thread powers at work tongue

LOL! So now you want to make THIS thread about all those subjects as well?

What have I objected to about homosexuals other than I've got legal concerns about gay marriage? I doubt you could find any other comment I've ever possibly  made about "homosexuals" other than in the context of gay marriage because they don't exist. Where is all of this anti-gay commentary you claim I make?

You also over simplify my comments about "women". I have no objection to women at all; never have; love women. I have an objection to feminists; two totally different things.

"Tainted by association"??? Really? Where was the influx of new visitors after Kahn, Wint and I left two years ago? Where was this sudden, massive migration of interested people who were just waiting for us to leave before they'd commit to joining? Because the way I remember it, this place went dark and silent not too long after us undesirables decided to do something else with our time.

My ass was begged to come back into this forum and you know exactly by whom because you and I talked about it in private messaging, when you were wondering whether you should come back. This place was deader than Forrest Lawn and was assumed by most people that it had been given up for good. Regulars had to be emailed that activity was picking up and that they should give the place yet another try because everyone had left.

So let's not fucking pretend that this place was a hive of intellectualism just waiting to take the leap to legitimacy after I left; this place was at the ass-end of cyberspace; a place for reprobate, misfit Bond fans to commiserate and post pictures of titties and talk about whether you shaved your snatch or not, and not have to worry about some fire-breathing administrator (he at CBN who shall not be named) laying a heavy hand on the place.

And those were FUN TIMES. But just like all history, this story is starting to repeat itself ONCE AGAIN, with the same tired, old, cliched complaints made against the same people.
