I tend to steer clear of self-proclaimed 'big idea' novelists, generally because our understanding of the big issues tend to be a million miles apart. However, been meaning to get around to reading Pynchon. If they've finally started to film his work I may have to get a move on.
Not that I found that trailer inspiring. I hate smart-arse dialogue.

I'm not sure about this one… Looks interesting, but it's either going to be completely with or without heart. The trailer seems to be cut together like some kind of tribute as opposed to teasing what the film might be…

Inherent Vice is pretty far afield of Pynchon's usual stuff. It's one of his lighter yarns, a bit of a lark that reads like a cross between Altman's The Long Goodbye and the Coens' The Big Lebowksi.
No idea what I'll make of the film. It seems to have split even the most devoted PTA fans.

Nice list of mostly overlooked films. They're all worth checking out, regardless of whether you're seeing INHERENT VICE.

Not seen Straight Time and didn't rate the Breathless remake. Like to watch To Live & Die in LA again - been 20 years.

I take back that "they're all worth checking out".
BREATHLESS is the exception.

Anyone else seen this? It's splitting people like crazy but I really loved it.

Interesting list to read having seen the movie.
I would say that "Chinatown" and "The Long Goodbye" are the two most obvious influences.
Did not catch myself ever thinking of "To Live and Die in L.A." though.
