| With the series populated by so many colourful characters, it would be hard to stand out not only in the 1 film they're in, but in a franchise now spanning 25 films. But then there are some characters who are so fully realised in their brief writing, solidified by the performance given by the actor, that they leave a lasting impression. Which is your favourite? I think I included all of them. I didn't include the likes of Felicca (since she's more of the Bond girl mould), Yusef since he's built up over the course of two films, or Mr White circa SP, since he was in two preceding films also. Happy to add to the list if I've left anyone out. These are characters involved almost exclusively to two hander dialogue scenes with Bond.
I'm going with Dr Kaufman, naturally. The scene could have been ripped directly from Fleming's pages. He's such an impactful character that you think he's in the film for more than the one scene he's given. And what he brings out in Brosnan's Bond - the cynicism, the darkness, Fleming's idea of 007 being as a cool as a surgeon about death - is excellent stuff.
Honourable mention to a good deal of the others listed. They do these characters rather well, I have to say. Smithers in Goldfinger is particularly good, too. |

| Bloody hell, tougher than I thought as I scrolled down. It's narrowed down to the Sheikh and Kaufman. Lazar is good for prompting the Moore line: "...or forever hold you piece", Aubergine feels too much of a caricature. Smithers and Sir Donald, though I like Naismith, are good but sort of bland. Henderson would've been better had he been closer to the Richard Hughes-esque Dikko of the novel (though that moment Gray just go silent is somehow good) and Lachesis, well, I'm not sure.
You know, the Sheikh. I mean the chap is well spoken, has a bevvy of women and I like his interplay with Bond. "Of course, I always knew what you were going to do". And good chap that he is, he allows Bond the use of his harem. |

| Fleming's Henderson would have been much more compelling, of course. But Grey's version is very amusing. We learn so much about him in so little time and his demise is rather haunting.
I really dig the way Naismith says "... the services we provide!" It's the inflection, I think.
Sheikh's hospitality is very good. Wonder if Hosein waited outside during Bond's deeds that night. I digress. He's likeable immediately and down to the actor who played him. He'll be 88 this September. |

| I've plumped for Lazar ... I enjoy MooreBond's urbane dismantling of his bullshit, and the ' ... forever hold your piece' line is superb. |

| I think the successful one scene character also brings out something in Bond. There's an edginess to Moore's performance that works in TMWTGG. Shame it is dropped in the two subsequent films.

| Seems that they thought it was ultimately too Conneryesque and that Moore needed to play it his own way. |

| I was tossing up between sharing this here or the 'Did you know?' thread but I'll do it here. We could do with a few more votes: When he appeared in Goldfinger, the actor who played Col. Smithers, Richard Vernon, was 38 years old. 38! |

| Voted Henderson, Charles gray is better here in this brief scene than in the larger role he enjoyed in DAF

38!
By contrast, Connery was 37 in YOLT ... even allowing for the toupee, he didn't look anywhere near this old! |

| Similar to the chap in Mary Poppins, Arthur Malet. When he died in 2013 he was 85 and everyone was surprised it seemed as he seemed to specialise in playing older characters. Thirty-seven in Mary Poppins but looked twice that. |

My choice here as well. He should have been in the film more. |

My choice here as well. He should have been in the film more. I also voted for the bad doctor, although there are several good choices available. |
