PostSubject: DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER: Your 3 Favourite Scenes   DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER: Your 3 Favourite Scenes EmptySun Nov 01, 2015 2:29 am

No 'end credits' answers.

1. "That's a nice little nothing you're almost wearing!"
A perfect introduction to Tiffany. The great chemistry between Connery and St. John propels the cracking dialogue and establishes a nice little dynamic between the two. Shame that after a handful of subsequent scenes she gets a personality transplant with Ekland's Goodnight. Back to the positives, Barry provides one of his best pieces in the lounge rendition of Diamonds Are Forever. Don't know how many times I've listened to that track - the whole score actually.

2. Fight with Peter Franks
Connery's second best fight scene. Brutal and tense, and having it play out inside the tight elevator only adds to the intensity. The actor who plays Franks looks like a genuine threat.

3. "Hi I'm Plenty"
Such a short scene but I consider it part of Connery's James Bond iconography - the brilliantly named girl, her tits, the dialogue, her tits and her tits. thumbsup

1. Bond Smells a Rat

"Well, one of us smells like a tart's handkerchief."
[sniffs]
"I'm afraid it's me. Sorry, old boy."

2. A Glowing Tribute

The scenes in Slumber, Inc. are excellent. Great set design. You can almost smell the funeral home.

3. Mrs. Whistler Goes For a Swim

Genuinely eerie scene in a comedic film. Wint and Kidd's scenes were well done. Two of the best henchmen of the series.

1. "He would have given him wings, Mr. Kidd."
These two henchman brought a dose of dark menace to a film that does fairly well balancing both the lighter, goofier elements and such scenes as this. The whole scene out in the desert is just eerie and unsettling plus the music by Barry in this scene is particularly great.

2. "Speak up darling, I can't hear you."
This segment Bond is showing his more brutal side especially strangling a bathing woman with her own bikini. The "Welcome to hell, Blofeld" while loses a bit of impact when you know Blofeld really didn't die in the mud bath but still the overall brute force here made it a tense opening.

3. "Now don't tell me, you're St. Peter?"
The whole scene here at Slumber, Inc. illustrates how this film straddles between light and dark. The scene where Bond is almost cremated is hard to stomach even knowing the outcome, a pretty gruesome way to go but then Shady Tree pops up to "save the day" and suddenly the scene ends on a comic note. Morton Slumber slamming the coffin lid down at the close of the scene was a nice comic touch given the look of anger on his face.

Overall a film in which there was a huge amount of scenes to chose from, honorable mentions go to "I got a bruddah!" with Bond's ride ride to Slumber with Marc Lawrence and Sid Haig as well as "It's gone berserk!"  with Bond stealing a moon buggy after peeking over a moon rock then fighting off two astronauts which still gives me a chuckle.

Bond scaling the Whyte House and ending up on his toilet.

All scenes with Wint and Kidd. (That's cheating slightly, but they're great characters so it's impossible to just choose one scene.)

Bond snogging himself in Amsterdam is funny.

It's a cool little scene, but I reckon having some wider shots of Bond scaling the tower and show how high up he is would have added to the danger/suspense element. Maybe that's just me though.

Bond hitching a ride out to WW's Techtronics compound in the back of Metz's van and bluffing his way into the lab.

The Mustang chase on Fremont Street.

The deploying of the laser satellite, with Barry's spacey score.

This was my first Bond so there's nothing I don't like about it, however nonsensical some of the continuity may be. It marked the day I realized that the term 'sexy' could apply to more than just women (which of course it still did in this film).

Saw Diamonds on release in 1971 at the cinema, it was my first Bond and it left a lasting impression which stayed with me for 49 years, it's not the best Bond film but it's the one i have the greatest affinity with.

1. Bond meets Tiffany...Great shots of Amsterdam and of course Tiffany in her negligee, great interplay between the pair and the unforgettable line "as long as the collars and cuffs match"..i do wonder however why Tiffany doesn't simply pour Bonds drink into another glass?

2. Chase around Vegas... Pretty tame by todays standards but watching this as a 12 year old kid was thrilling especially the infamous dead end shot where the mustang miraculously goes from the right wheels to the left...strangely i hadn't noticed the crowds trying to get a glimpse of filming until a few years ago

3. Circus circus... Rousing soundtrack from John barry adds to the great exuberance of the casino, a lively, colourful scene that i always enjoy watching. A female colleague of mine visited Circus circus in 2008 (ish) and she said it had become a real dump....such a shame

It's such a shame how that excellent Mustang stunt ends. I suppose it's a good visual metaphor for the film: starts out decent but descends into chaos by the end. Like Tiffany, like the PTS...

I'll stick with these three but I could interchange any of them with the gas station scene. "Keep leaning on that tooter Charlie and you'll get a shot in the mouth!" Gold.
