SPECTRE awarded a Guinness World Records title for the Largest Film Stunt Explosion

Remember this scene, when the entire lair blew up for no reason whatsoever?

It's absolutely consistent with the mindset behind the entire SPECTRE screenplay: Let's do it just because.

Commenting on the announcement, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the producers of SPECTRE, said, “It is absolutely tremendous that the Guinness World Records have recognised Chris Corbould’s incredible work in SPECTRE in which he created the largest explosion ever in film history."

Yeah it kinda feels like that. I imagine Bond shooting the gas pipe had something to do with it, but it all seems very convenient. Looks better in the BTS vid than in the actual film, too!

This scene reminded me of that satirized bit in American Psycho when Bale explodes a police car by shooting it a few times with a pistol.

Yeah, it was all too fucking easy. Bond popping off goons with nary a bead of sweat and then blowing the whole place to cuntdom with one bullet. Could've been a far better sequence all in all and, as I've opined in other threads, should have been developed into the film's climax.

Still and all, nice to see the bad guy's ground-based base of operations going ka-boom near the end of a Bond film for the first time since, ooh, Goldeneye (discounting DAD and QOS).

Why discounting QOS and DAD?

With DAD, the stuff aboard the disintegrating plane is meant as the ACTUAL climax.

And with QOS, I don't think that the hotel was built specifically as a base of ops by Quantum (although it may have been, I don't remember).
