The Day of the Dead Parade and SPECTRE Empty
PostSubject: The Day of the Dead Parade and SPECTRE   The Day of the Dead Parade and SPECTRE EmptyMon Jan 01, 2018 9:22 pm

I know, it is all over the news that SPECTRE has inspired a Day of the Dead parade in Mexico. The story goes as follows: naturally, the holiday has been there for a long time, but after SPECTRE had staged a parade for the holiday, it was decided to have a real parade in Mexico city.
I just have a feeling that this is unlikely. I think I have seen material on the internet which implies that there may have been parades in the US and that they have only been relocated to Mexico. But I honestly do not know. Does anyone know more about that? I would be very grateful for more information.

I mean, there are numerous reasons why it was brilliant to include the parade. The purpose of the Day of the Dead is to honour those who have passed away, so it might not be political correct to relate it to a film called "spectre", but it makes sense. And this is all about a video message sent by a dead M, Bond's personal spectre and his mission to honour the dead. That all adds up.
They wanted the reference to TB. And it just translates better on the screen when you stage a chase in a parade.
But I somehow have my doubts that they really have invented it out of nothing.

I'm a little ill-versed when it comes to this festival because of the lack of consistent information. Which I suppose is very fitting it popped up in SPECTRE. By that I mean that, Bond novels/films have generally focussed on the cultural aspects - that actually exist - of each location so they feel like travelogues. The fact that the Day of the Dead parade may not exist in Mexico makes me scratch my head. Thematically, sure, it fits, but if I visit Mexico on the day of the celebration and there's no parade, SPECTRE has failed one vital component of being a James Bond film. Comparatively in TB and MR, the Junkanoo and Carnavale are renowned parades, so it's fitting Bond stumble across the celebration during his mission.

Exactly. I simply think it is against Bond policies to CHANGE an exotic location.

Or Switzerland, where you bump into errant rally car races upstaged by a sporty convertible. colgate
