NZ, though not exactly a superpower, and with limited influence, is going to go down the dumps.

"Capitalism a blatant failure". Hopefully Australia can learn vicariously from its neighbour and not entertain socialist governments.

To be fair to the sheep enthusiasts, Comrade Ardern and Maori Trump combined got less of the vote than the conservatives; it's just that the Kiwis decided to bring in an electoral system whereby one lunar-right nutso (Maori Trump) gets to decide who forms government regardless of who received more votes. They based this on that most historically sound of democracies - Germany.

Having said that, it's worth considering whether countries like ours should consider maintaining present immigration levels to prop up the property-ponzi sector. That was a key issue in NZ.

Fascinating article in NYB on the triumph of socialism in Venezuela.

Quote :
Caracas was seen as the new Mecca for the European, Latin American, and American left. Progressive news organizations, magazines, and newspapers including The Guardian, The New Yorker, and the BBC reported favorably on Hugo Chávez [snip] By May 2017, Venezuela’s minimum monthly wage wasn’t enough to meet even 12 percent of a single person’s basic food needs. A survey of 6,500 households by three prestigious universities showed that 74 percent of the population had lost on average nineteen pounds in 2016. Infant mortality in hospitals has risen by 100 percent. Diseases nearly eradicated in many countries, like malaria and diphtheria, have flourished; illnesses largely new to the area, like Chikungunya, Zika, and dengue, have spread. Caracas is now the most dangerous city on the planet. All this is happening in a country that has one of the largest oil reserves in the world.

About 60,000 Venezuelans have fled to Trinidad, including lawyers, doctors, other professionals who are now happy to work scrubbing toilets.

We have 3 Vene chicas in our bar...they are gorgeous...no, I am not a 'Madam' but I have been asked if I'd consider it. (no joke!)
