Interesting info. I wonder if the film also took inspiration from the fact there was a disappearing officer only to be found dead-- or rather indeterminably found, and made to look like said officer. |

| Interesting story. Certainly a lot of inspiration for writers of the genre in that period.
Sounds pretty Bondian, this fellow. Double whiskeys, too many cigarettes. Now we just need to know how many runs he has on the board with the birds. |

| Certainly one of the great mysteries. Heard about it when I was little, the whole thing is a touch Bondian to begin with. Don't buy the double agent or brainwashed story. It's likely he had a heart attack or was mashed by the ship's propellers. Portsmouth Harbour is not renowned for its clarity beneath the surface. Think something wrote a fiction book where Crabb was brainwashed and recruited to the KGB. Might be worth a punt. |

| Wasn't Crabb's head found floating later on? |

| I imagine MI6 was crabby about the whole episode... |

| Bet MI5 was considering this was in home waters and their line of work. |

That's interesting, considering that the body was decidedly not that of Crabbe. |

That's interesting, considering that the body was decidedly not that of Crabbe. Well, I was only relying on what I heard in Law lecture over ten years ago. |

| Maybe you both are right. The fact that the headless body was not Crabbe does not eliminate the possibility that his head was found later on. It just means that there may have been two bodies... |
