I dunno. I like Eastwood movies, both films he's directed and/or starred in. Mostly the older ones, though. The only I liked of recent is GRAN TORINO.

I really wanna see this:

And THE BEGUILED.

Pity Netflix doesn't have THUNDERBOLT AND LIGHTFOOT.

If we are talking purely about his work as a director, his best movie is still The Outlaw Josey Wales. I don't really care much for any of his directorial work that came after The Unforgiven. Though I've yet to see "Hereafter".

Gran Torino is merely alright. It's a repetition of what he did in The Unforgiven: use his mythos to play around with the audience's expectations about the character he plays and then ultimately wrong-footing them.

Million Dollar Baby might be the most overrated Oscar darling North of Crash. :x

What I'll say is that I've always liked Eastwood since those childhood days when I watched Rawhide repeats on Channel 4. I'm evenly spread concerning his movies, older one's like Dirty Harry newer ones like Million Dollar Baby. I like him as an actor, as a director. He is Eastwood.

His best work was with Don Siegel.

I don't think Leone had much to do with Eastwood's acting. Michael Cimino got a great performance out of him,

I'm probably leaning toward JOSEY WALES these days as well.

Same here. I like Jerry Fielding's score too.

I've also some sentimental attachment to BRONCO BILLY, but aside from those, his directorial output's pretty dire. Especially in the noughties.

Couldn't agree more. Dirty Harry, Coogan's Bluff and Escape From Alcatraz are all splendid.

Is there a reason why the French loved The Beguiled so much? They seem to like his directorial work very much as well.

Don't forget THE BEGUILED. Everybody does.

The French love Clint Eastwood. Especially when he's being mutilated.

I really enjoyed The Changeling and Million Dollar Baby. Not too big on Gran Torino though. It was very good, but it wasn't anything beyond that.

"Broadsword calling Danny Boy..."

Eastwood's long been one of my very favourites, but my absolute fave is WHERE EAGLES DARE. Just a great film. 8)

Yep. Completely agree.

I like most of Clint's work, both as an actor and director. He's consistent and thorough; two things you'll have a hard time finding these days in Hollywood. One of America's last living legends. And one of the last of the true tough guys in Hollywood.

Jason Stratham, Robert Pattenburg, Daniel Craig, etc. can take a hike.

In the last decade, Clint's been consistent alright. Consistently shit.

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly is one of my favourite films of all time.

Escape from Alcatraz, Dirty Harry & Magnum Force score highly too.

There was also another one where he plays an investigative reporter and saves an innocent black man from the death penalty (the lethal injection was actually being administered when the pardon came in). Name of it escapes me at the moment....need Hazelnut coffee...and an egg & bacon sandwich....

You mean "True Crime" Dog Bond. I didn't really care for that one.

That screenplay is also another victim of the Hollywood PC police. In the novel it's based on, the innocent man on death row is white and the real murderer is black.

Reminds me of The Shawshank Redemption, in the novel, I think Red was a white Irish guy but in the movie, he's Morgan Freeman. Although I saw the movie before I heard about the book and enjoyed it with MF's casting all the same.

Might give True Crime another watch now that I know what to ask for, thanks

I think he's way over rated as a director, but he is a good judge of material

When the boogie man goes to sleep, he checks under his bed for Chuck Norris. But when Chuck Norris goes to sleep, he checks under his bed for Clint Eastwood.

Perhaps, but on the large scale, his works this past decade were probably some of the best to come out of Hollywood. There's been a lot of shit pumped out during the past 10 years -- even some of those films that were glamorized at the Academy Awards.

And on an even larger scale (his whole career, in other words), I'd say that he's stayed consistent as both an actor and director. I think he's one of the best talents to come out of America.

Long live Eastwood.

I'd say Clint's 00s pics are on a pretty equal plane. Though don't forget - MILLION DOLLAR BABY' won' best picture, and MYSTIC RIVER scored a good of deal of nominations, and 2 'wins'.

I think he made consistently entertaining films before the last ten years. Now he's a critical darling, but I found MYSTIC RIVER boring on an attempted second view, and I straight up hated MILLION DOLLAR BABY.

I like when he mostly made B films and action pictures.

CHANGELING and GRAN TORINO weren't much of an improvement. HEREAFTER just established a new low. Way to bring in the new decade.

I've only seen GRAN TORINO once, but I liked it. Of the Clint films I've seen more than once, only JOSEY WALES and UNFORGIVEN measure up in that department.

But GRAN TORINO had Clint being Clint. Must be better than Matt Damon playing football.
