| https://www.news.com.au/entertainment/movies/extremely-saddened-and-disappointed-james-bond-actor-george-lazenby-dropped-from-show-after-creepy-interview/news-story/5233041a3f4b7e8b93c6d05c9860bea9 - Quote :
- James Bond actor George Lazenby has been described as “creepy” and “homophobic” after he gave an awkward on-stage interview during a concert tribute to the iconic film franchise.
Lazenby, who played 007 in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, was part of a show called The Music of James Bond with George Lazenby at Perth Concert Hall on Saturday night.
Talkback callers said the 83-year-old was “disgusting”, and after multiple complaints, the presenters decided to drop him from the next performance in Melbourne.
“He spent all of the interview just talking about basically his sexual conquests, he was homophobic, he swore, he certainly wasn’t talking about his Bond movies, he downplayed the Queen a day after she died,” one caller to 6PR radio said.
“It was absolutely unbelievable … at one point he named an Australian cricketer whose daughter he was chasing and he said he dragged the daughter out of the pub and put her in the car in London, which again is of course horrific.
“He named women who he had slept with, and there were children in the audience.
“There were a lot families who had brought their kids probably to their first ever classical music concert.
“It wasn’t even charming, it wasn’t even funny. It was creepy, it was offensive … it was absolutely horrific behaviour.”
The WA Symphony Orchestra was also part of the performance, which was presented by Concertworks.
“Mr Lazenby’s recollections were personal views and they are totally unacceptable,” WASO said in a statement on Monday.
“His views are not shared or endorsed by WASO or Perth Concert Hall.
“We thank performers Bonnie Anderson and Luke Kennedy, conductor Nicholas Buc and the WASO musicians for their professionalism.”
Concertworks said it was “extremely saddened and disappointed” by Lazenby’s language, comments and recollections.
“These were his personal views and there is no excuse for this in today’s society,” a statement read.
“They do not reflect the views of Concertworks. On behalf of Concertworks, we sincerely apologise to the audience, performers, conductor, WASO and the Perth Concert Hall.
“Concertworks denounces Mr Lazenby’s conduct and the final Music of James Bond concert in Melbourne will proceed without Mr Lazenby in attendance.”
Fucking pathetic. For all those whose image of Australia is stuck in he 80's, know that the real Australia of today is, alas, a nation of joyless, feckless, finger-wagging dullards. Lazenby's Bond slept with, what, three women in OHMSS and these people are complaining their kids had to hear about how - horror of horrors - the real Lazenby has also slept with women. Newsflash: don't take your kids to an event about a character known for sleeping with many women, especially if the actor was a world-renowned Lothario. As for the "homophobia," I suspect (but don't know) this is related to the famous story about Cubby (IIRC) sending a hooker to Lazenby's hotel room to test out what team he bat for. The people who complained are all dickheads and the event organisers who canned their star in response are even bigger dickheads. Do feel for Lazenby who made the effort to fly home, at his age, and get involved in this, only to be punted by some gormless knobgobblers. |

| "83-year old espouses ideas that are not deemed 'woke' enough."
Quick someone fetch my fainting couch! |

| First, LOL.
Second, Laz gets asked the same questions all the time. The description here seems to enforce that. His answers are muscle memory.
Hard to fathom no one in the chain of people who put this James Bond fan event together is a James Bond enthusiast who has heard Laz speak or could anticipate his commentary.
Or more likely the person(s) putting the event together and bringing him in did in fact have an idea and thought it'd be fine like 99% of everyone. |

| The western world is controlled by pathetic pussies. Consequently, the West is ready for the knockout blow. I almost welcome it. |

| The BBC article https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-62879838 - BBC wrote:
- "Another attendee described the interview as the "self-interested misogynistic stories of George Lazenby's sexual prowess, intimate details of diarrhoea and objectification of women."
- BBC wrote:
- "It wasn't until a brave member of the public shouted, 'Excuse me, this is offensive', that the tension was released and George was jeered off stage and music saved the day," they told The West Australian newspaper."
This other attendee = public relations expert. - BBC wrote:
- "A second caller to 6PR defended the actor, saying his stories were a deliberate "exaggeration" for comedic effect.
"He didn't kidnap [anyone], there was no rape. People were just getting so woke. [The show] was very entertaining until people were yelling out and booing."
The BBC has not been able to independently verify the nature of Lazenby's comments." Oh well ok then. |

| I like the idea that it was the tales of George's gastric distress that were the last straw for some. |

Organisers aside, have a look Karen Cuntington who complained that Lazenby barely talked about "his Bond movie s." Shows how much of a clue she had about Lazenby going in if she thought he had a raft of Bond films. - Perilagu Khan wrote:

Slow-motion suicide is more likely. There won't need to be a knockout blow from without. One thing to note - and I'm genuinely not 'rubbing it in' - Lazenby was a supporter of the social revolution that took place in the 60's and today's Leftist puritans are the ideological descendants of the Leftist libertines of that era. Always eats its own etc. - Blunt Instrument wrote:

One can only hope the fish-cake canapés were off and the feckless audience members copped a bit of gastric distress of their own. |

And yes again, to a degree, Laz has been hoisted on his own petard. But it is possible he's seen the folly of his earlier ways, as John Cleese has to a certain degree. |

| If you've lived a long enough life in this tipsy turvy world you should invariably see the follies of your youth if you take the blinkers off.
Alas, when even self-styled conservatives are merely conserving the liberalism of a decade ago there's not much hope of the handbrake being pulled. |

| No. We're doomed. The only question is when everything goes up in smoke and ash, and what the survivers make of the shambles. |

| Afraid spending all of an unexpected Bank Holiday watching a state funeral on TV isn't really my thing, so rewatched Becoming Bond yesterday. If only those deciding whether to book Lazenby for this event had bothered their arses doing the same thing. |

| A few years ago an events organiser would've watched 'Becoming Bond' and would've been gagging to have Lazenby tell his tales. Now, they would've have cancelled him advance.
When I saw Laz in person about a decade ago, the audience had a great time listening to his debauchery.
Alas, "the past is a different country," even when you're only talking about 10 years, give or take. |

Or even five (!) if you going off that documentary release, which has the same stories beat for beat as BI pointed out, diarrhea and all. |

| After the whole MeChew situation, the cultural elites who happily propped up Weinstein et al for decades decided an over-correction was necessary and now the idea of a "ladies' man" needed to be eliminated completely.
The one Bond movie released after that movement came to prominence (NTTD of course) was a rather sexless affair and Babs makes a lot of noise about how Bond's womanising needs to "evolve." No place for stories of conquests in this eggshell-steppin' world. |
