Doesn't this look great?

I've been waiting for it for so long. She looks absolutely fantastic. And well, her acting is nothing less than the expected brilliance.

Her accent's a shocker. laugh

Can't say it really excites me too much - but I'm the guy who's been to the movies twice in about a year. ;)

Saving my $12 from this.

Sorry, Cronenberg.

Looks like a good cure for insomnia. And could someone to me explain the appeal of Knightley? I find her to be one of the least interesting actresses to watch onscreen.

Should have been called BAKER STREET: ORIGINS, with a now-of-age Fae being taught her first kinks by Herrs MOO7RE and Ambler. ;)

Otherwise, I'm just getting the vibe of a period take on Secretary. I too don't see the appeal of Knightley, but the rest of that cast are always watchable. But I'm with Colly in that I'm lucky if I'll get to the cinema once or twice a year nowadays, so maybe I'll just catch this on TV in about five years' time.

It just doesn't look that substantial. Can't quite figure out why.

Anyway, I give you BAKER STREET: FIRST CLASS

She's such a convincing actress. Her performances from The Duchess, to The Edge of Love (my personal favourite along with Never Let Me Go), Atonement and Pride and Prejudice have all been fantastic. Even her small role in Love, Actually is good. Not only can she act better than most other actresses out there her age, she also looks the best. Yes, she's a bit skinny, but her gorgeous face and talent make up for it. And this is coming from someone who doesn't really like skinny women. I'm more for curves.

I still think she can improve though. I feel that while she offers hints of new physicalities for each role, I don't think she does enough and relies on her [believable] expressions and tones. For example, in The Duchess, she holds a stronger stance to show her authority, but she doesn't do as much with it. This is why I love her performance more in Never Let Me Go, because you can, for example, see more of a physical decline in her character after her operation, which adds to her character. And this differentiates and contrasts from her youthful demeanours earlier on in the film. I feel that in A Dangerous Method, this is going to be the case again, as seen in the trailer where she says, "It excited me!" It looks as if she has taken on an entirely different physicality, which I'm very happy about.

That doesnt really qualify it as being good - I may have had worse beers than past-its-use-by-date Bintang, but its still a sh*t beer. ;)

Maybe I'm forming a bias, but I actually thought her accent is quite good most of the time. I like it. The English accent is coming through, but so did Craig's in Defiance. :)

PostSubject: A DANGEROUS METHOD (Cronenberg - 2011)   Sat Sep 03, 2011 10:48 pm

It premiered in Venice in the the last 24 hours, and apparently it's getting warm reviews. It's another Cronenberg/ Mortensen/ Shore collaboration, this time based on John Kerr's dramatisation of the troubled relationship between Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung and their patient Sabina Spielrein. Starring Viggo Mortensen, Michael Fassbender and Keira Knightley.

Judging from the trailer alone, it looks horrible. Like some God damn TV movie. It's got that nasty nasty digital gloss, and the performances don't look too convincing.

David Cronenberg as a filmmaker died sometime in the late 80s, once he stopped focusing on modern Gothic morality tales. After that, he became a nihilist.

I enjoyed both "Eastern Promises" and "A History of violence" and I'm a fan of Fassbender and Cassel. So I will be seeing this.

The only unfortunate thing is the fact that the female lead is Keira Knightley, whom I do not rate at all as an actress.

Merged threads due to it being a duplicate. I knew it was going to get good reviews. And I'll just ignore your negative comments, Oppers tongue

Who cares what modern film critics think? Most of them today are a bunch of overpaid hacks who know f*ck all about their medium.

Agreed. I'm not surprised by the critical praise, but I'm not really interested. I'm surprised by how uninspired the visual direction of it all looks; Cronenberg at his prime was very meticulous about the visual landscape of a film.

DEAD RINGERS is the one of the masterful horror films I've ever seen. That said, NAKED LUNCH is one of the most abysmal films I've ever seen. Cronenberg definitely has his ups and downs.

As said before, ease of use often results in laziness. Having clear restrictions (i.e. number of reels) helps one be more resourceful.

It's a wonderful film, with Jeremy Irons's (I admit not one of my favourite actors) best performance. I'd probably rank VIDEODROME and THE FLY in 2nd and 3rd place.

It's a pretentious mess. That said, the score ain't bad.

Nice improv from free jazz legend Ornette Coleman. When Howard Shore said John Barry was a major influence, he wasn't kidding.

He's really quite remarkable in it.

Not bad choices. I need to see THE DEAD ZONE.

I was too busy hating the film to really pay attention to the score. But you're right, the score ain't bad.

A pearl necklace would be wasted on Keira Knightly. I suppose she might be boyish in other areas, though.

God, I'd rather read a book.
