Yeah he looks ridiculous, I don't get it. He looks like a Sith Lord.

Is it confirmed it will be the last flick with Cruise and then Renner will take over the rest of the possible entries?

Got to admire the ingenuity behind the series, Cruise's bald patch remains secure.

I don't think anything has been confirmed on that front. All we've got are rumors.

I'd rather a reboot of the whole thing, with someone playing Jim Phelps. Maybe Bruce Greenwood.

Now you're talking.

Though there can only ever be one Jim Phelps. Maybe do another MI film with Greenwood as Briggs (MI Season 1). That could work.

I'd take that. Next trick is casting Rollin Hand. And get Lalo. Any ideas on a cast?

Screw Dan Briggs, Jim Phelps - Bruce Greenwood
Rollin Hand -
Cinnamon -
Barney -
Willy -

No love for the Briggster.

God help me the first person I saw for Rollin Hand was Topher Grace but scratch that. Then I see the late Bill Bixby but that was his Magician TV series.

Willy would likely need to be some wrestler I suppose with an IQ to match. If it was the 70s or 80s I'd say Stallone. Heck, why not Rourke.

Cinnamon- ideally Diora Baird for looks, likely Scarlett Johannsonononononon, Anne Hathaway

Barney- perhaps Mayweather from Enterprise.

William Shatner as The Man: "Good morning Mr Phelps..."

Man, pity Basehart's dead his voice would've been perfect for the tape.

I haven't seen enough of the M:I TV series to be sure, so I'll just ask ... was Ethan Hunt (or now that I come to think of it looking at Tux's list up there, ANY of the characters that have been in the movies other than Phelps) ever a character in it?

No. Hunt was an original creation for the first film.

Ethan Hunt was created so they could turn M:I into an American James Bond, which is the exact opposite of what the show was. If would be as if they turned the Bond series into the "Bond and M Show".

It would be like if all the Star Trek characters got killed in the beginning of the movie, the film followed some redshirt no one gives a shit about and Captain Kirk is revealed as the villain and gets killed at the end. That's why a lot of M:I fans were pissed about the first flick and why many of the actors from that show call the film a dog. In the end this is all just a Tom Cruise franchise using brand recognition.

The producers should also introduce the estranged transgender sibling, "Gary" Phelps, for the sake of political correctness.

They could have found a better way to pass the baton on to Hunt. The first film is actually a nice little thriller (even if the train sequence is OTT), but it ruined the Jim Phelps character. Even if Phelps died at the end of the film, he should have been a hero.

A better version of the film would have Phelps realising that there was a mole in his team. Knowing that each of his team members was being killed off, he stages his own death to lure Hunt away from a death trap. Hunt survives, leading the IMF to believe he is the mole, and the actual mole to believe they got away with it, but they have to worry about Hunt, unaware that Phelps is alive. Knowing that Hunt would try to clear his own name, the rest of the film would revolve around Phelps carrying out his own investigation and feeding information back to Hunt and the IMF; Phelps essentially uses Hunt to do things that he himself cannot. Phelps could commit treason at the end of the film, but only to expose the identity of the actual mole, and Hunt and the IMF would keep it quiet. This would preserve Phelps' reputation, and hand the franchise over to Cruise.
