| Live and Let Die (1954)Mr Big is a Harlem gangster, who controls his empire with superstitious fear. He has discovered a lost treasure beneath a Jamaican Island and is smuggling the gold into America. Bond's mission to stop him is made more urgent by the suspicion that he is also an agent of SMERSH.________________________________________________________ Still a great read, though in my opinion, it isn't as captivating as Casino Royale. Love the torture sequence (later adapted into FYEO, the film). Solitaire is a pretty good Bond girl, but she doesn't live up to the complexity of Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale. Definitely prefer it to the film. Read the novel? Post your thoughts here. |

| How about how do we rate this cover art! 10/10
First Fleming paperback I purchased (2nd that I read after reading a borrowed copy of YOLT) was FRWL, only because as a 12 year old, I really liked the virtually naked picture of Tatiana on the cover, so I plunked my paper route money down for that selection. |

| There's one part where Bond reads about Voodoo. It quotes the book for pages, and that's the most boring part of the novel.
Otherwise, it's intriguing. The shootout at the parking bay (or was it), plus the stuff they cribbed for License to Kill. They should have done this with Dalton. |
