Books that changed my life? If 'change' can also come as some form of deeper understanding of life and our comical role in it, then it would be STEPPENWOLF by Herman Hesse, THE CIDER HOUSE RULES by John Irving and SLAUGHTERHOUSE-FIVE by Kurt Vonnegut.
