Because MPAAS went to 10 nominees last year for Best Picture, I thought I'd open this category up to more than just the standard five nominees:

FRWL for me, because it is almost perfect, but TLD is certainly most romantic.

I agree, I'd rate Thunderball far higher than at least four of the nominated films.

I'd always thought The World Is Not Enough was rated as one of the very worst Bond films around here, so it's odd to see it nominated as the best.

No Dr No either? Well, at the very least these topics should provide plenty of healthy debate, so it's all good, and it's great to see members taking initiative and starting polls up.

I've never understood the dislike of TWINE by some of the fans. It was a direct response to the pointless, mindless, balls-to-the-wall action orgy of TOMORROW NEVER DIES.

TWINE was a character film richly laden with a credible, complex back-story that enables the film to pull M out of her usual office set and into the action. I found the movie to be a very actor-centric film, with great performances turned in by Dench, Carlyle and Marceau. Sophie was pitch perfect as the delusional Elektra. Just look at her face and her body language when she tells M: "Your people? Your people will leave you here to rot and die like you and my father left me." There's an almost physical detachment from mind and body, as if Elektra has become so completely enamored with her own intellect and belief in her inherent superiority that she cannot fathom that M may be right.

And that scene where Elektra reveals she's the true villain behind the plot to blow up the pipeline:"I just couldn't let it blow up with the rest of him." The look on Dench's face....the tension in the scene between M and Marceau....it's all bloody good acting.

It's not like TB was sloppy-seconds. But it wasn't as director-driven or actor-centric as TWINE was.

I find TWINE to be an almost flawless film other than Richards performance.

Don't make me choose one favorite from that list. Please, don't make me!

TSWLM, OHMSS and TB all tie for first place with me, along with DAF, LALD and TMWTGG.

Second place is shared by CR and TLD, along with OP and DAD.

Third place is for everything else, even including MR.

AVTAK and CR 67 have last place to themselves.

A gun is being pointed at your head. You *HAVE* to choose. Which one is the absolute best? Deep within you you know that there are advantages one film has over the others, even if the advantages are ever so slight.

Go with TB. It's got Sean Connery at the apex of his strengths in the role.

Nice to see MR tied with FRWL and GF.

Great post, and I very much agree with your sentiments towards TWINE. Definitely in my top 10 :D

I voted for FRWL, though OHMSS is a strong contender!

Thank you for your support of TWINE. It has always seemed odd to me that the very fans who complained of the bad acting in DAD or the mindless action and CGI-fest of DAD or TND were somehow not satisfied with a slightly more toned-down, story-driven plot in TWINE. It's a case of giving people what they thought they wanted but turned out they didn't want it or didn't know what they really wanted.

TWINE was the worst of the Brosnan films. Unlike TND it does have aspirations of being more but it fails on every category thus becomes an even bigger embarrassment and worse it makes James Bond look like an idiot for the wrong reasons.

On the opposite end of the spectrum FRWL is hands down the best.
