No men with magic powers, but it has Bruce Dern, instead.
Looks like it could be interesting.

| I wasn't a fan of the digital effects, but if the film's decent, I can get over it.
Still need to see TETRO, too. |

I think it's on Netflix Instant. I need to get to that as well. I wanted to see it in theaters so bad when it came out during the summer, but that would have gotten in the way of TRANSFORMERS 2: ROFL getting extra screenings. It's nice to see Coppola making movies again consistently. |

| Huh? Fatass Kilmer and Dern. I'm there.
Anyone else think Kilmer is starting to look like a Japanese Sumo wrestler? |

| The 'Val Kilmer and Steven Seagal - separated at birth?' comment made me chuckle.
Interesting-looking flick, though. |

| I was thinking of Seagal too. What happened to this guy? |

You bet you do. The most aesthetically pleasing film of Coppola's career, matched with a kind of mixture of joyful comedy and melodrama. Completely loses its way in the last fifteen minutes, but up until that point, it's really as good a film as Coppola's ever made. Anyway, re: TWIXT, I find the trailer a little lackluster, but have high hopes after YOUTH WITHOUT YOUTH and TETRO. It does seem to have a decent sense of humor about it, and the trailer scarcely lets us in to the story. It seems to be all about the set-up. With the past two films, and now this, Coppola seems to be focused on stories about creators of troublesome great works, works that can't be finished without taking a great toll. (Echoes of his experience with APOCALYPSE NOW?) |

That's hardly a recommendation. Coppola doesn't control his films, they control him. Not a director. |

The same could be said of a number of great cinematic artists. Control isn't everything. |

| True. If it was simply about bringing in a film on time and on budget then Clint Eastwood would be a great director.

And that's even true for producers as well as directors ... else Rick McCallum would be getting the Thalberg award. |
