I was close to voting for the 50's reboot but couldn't stomach it. I'm a purist when it comes to Bond I guess. He is to me a transient in time. If one horrible day Bond really loses all meaning to what the films are supposed to be about (I'm talking fighting aliens unless if in the future aliens pose a legitimate national security risk) then I'm all for a realignment. Otherwise nothing else. Ever.

The only idea posted that interests me would be a 1950's Bond. But even this idea I would prefer as a side project to the ongoing "Bond in the now" series.

Although as we have seen from recent films such as X-Men First Class and Captain America, that mid 20th century period pieces can be quite, colourful, spectacular, escapist and Bondian.

The 50s (or 60s for that matter) reboot is the only idea I find genuinely appealing. I don't particularly feel the series should do it, but I can certainly see how it could be good. I would see a Felix Leiter film, or a Wai Lin film or whatever, but I wouldn't be particularly enthused if they were announced.

Well, let me put it this way: If you have seen MAD MEN you probably would want a Bond movie set back in that time period because with MAD MEN you get to see all the possibilities of where you could take the story in a time period that doesn't have all the politically correct restrictions on it that we have now. However, I understand why some would still bristle at the the idea because Don Draper is a different kind of lead character, and not really heroic at all like Bond should be. I'm not sure EON would be willing to give Bond or his associates the sort of character flaws we associat with people living in that time period.

Truth is, I'm up for just about any of the ideas up there other than the Avengers-style flick. I have a few more ideas I should post but I don't know how to edit the poll, if possible.

I'd support a reboot putting Bond back into the 50's.

Though, I'm not sure if they could do it correctly. And it wouldn't be very popular.

It'd be interesting if CASINO ROYALE was adapted for a television miniseries.

I'd like to see Bond v dinosaurs.

Q invents a time machine and Bond go back to slaughter free-range T-rexes. He then sells the T-rumps to McDonalds.

I think the Leiter idea is intriguing, but only if Fleming's Leiter is realized faithfully, something that has yet to happen some five decades on down the cinematic road.

From a purely capitalistic point of view, I've wondered why EON has never fully explored MI6 or the CIA without using Bond as the central character. I know they thought about a Wai Lin movie back in 1998, but.....then they talked about a Jinx movie, which probably had the best shot at getting made, but then Berry's movie picks bombed and I think her leading lady status probably dulled a bit, which meant she wasn't as viable as Jinx.

There's plenty of good choices to play Felix Leiter or for an entire new series of movies based on other '00' agents that would allow Barbara the opportunity to engage in some of her social engineering causes without having to change 007. But they don't do that. They've left a lot of money on the table, IMO.

A series of films focusing on other '00' agents and their missions, a spin-off series of films focused on Felix Leiter and his missions, and a reboot of the series that puts it firmly back in the 50's are the 3 best of the options listed IMHO. However, I don't think any spin-offs would probably turn out that well. I think both EON and the fanbase are better served by their focusing on making good films in the 007 series rather than spinoffs which often turn out mediocre at best.

So i vote for ''I could not support any of these ideas'' because of missing a option to vote for ''I would support a spin-off from another 007 releated chacter'' is missing.

Who read my fanart knowns i am talking about ''M'' the movie.A Twine spinoff/Bond 23 & Bond 24 Crossover.

My post from yeaterday on the new mi6forums: Do you think Bond would/should move back to the 60's?
Quote :
QOS is already closer to the Moore / Connery Bond and i think also this change to a more humor or atleast les action Bond is needed now.

If Bond (but also other movies) wil surive i think a Black Moneypenny be a start but i also think there should look back to the locations & cast members who be seen who be hired for DAF, Octopussy, TLD, Goldeneye to give a example.

I like Mad Men because i like to see some 50-70's and mabey also some 80's elements in a speed of today, but only some litle things Bond ever did earlier i like to see in James Bond and that's not the time playing in element but time things like Bond visit a hotel or a girls home to have love, Fields (Red hair, white legs) at the airport or a Bond girl in her 40's (Age of the presents Bond girls is one of those things that stil should be inprove those days and destroy the Astin Martin in QOS be a good thing to show more/difrent cars in QOS.) or with a bit creative fantasy showing a lot of walking people on the streets whyle in presents days this be less.

If Bond whant do some other simalars things like Mad Men did with Black & Gay people and Woman there should do this 2011 style without heavy Politic elements.

I think if we're going to do a period piece we need to go back a little further than the 60's. To understand the 60's you have to have seen the 50's. Also, taking the film back before the counter-culture revolution gives the series an opportunity to inject more of Fleming's creation into the series and to be more faithful to the original books (something Barbara and Michael have claimed to have wanted) and by setting it in the 50's the series can get away with more of the sexism and prejudice and smoking and drinking and disposable relationships and female patronizing attitudes that you can't get away with today. I'm just about all Wai Lin-ed and Jinx-ed out.

Quote :

That's exactly the kind of casting moves I'm trying to avoid by suggesting we take the series back to the 50's.

I'd settle for a Bond film in which Bond and a genuine Fleming Leiter are practically costars. Take for instance Fleming's Live and Let Die. In that novel, Bond and Leiter are practically inseperable, like Crockett and Tubbs or Riggs and Murtaugh. They are true partners and friends who experience a very dangerous mission together. Fleming's Diamonds Are Forever and Thunderball are other examples. No Bond films has done this. Typically, Leiter puts in a few fairly brief appearances and that is it. What we need to see is Bond and Leiter going through through the mangle together.

I think my comment was more directed at the kind of world MAD MEN exists in. The early 60's were an intense political time. While the show does highlight certain events, it greatly plays down the world around it which is vital to the show's character heavy emphasis. I'd love the best of both but remember, we live in a wee bit more fast paced society today. The Bond we have now I think reflects that. To do a 50's reboot you might have to slow things down a little. I for one wouldn't love the idea. While X-men and Captain America can be said to prove me wrong, but consider the content; mutant humans and a super soldier.

I would be fine with that but I'm not sure you would have to anyway. I think it would work, and not just for me. My issue with it is that I don't want to go backwards - if Bond had always been set in period I'd be fine with it, and I'm a lot less keen on modern Bond, but to have modern Bond and period Bond would be somehow wrong. I wish it hadn't but Bond has moved on and I can't help thinking that doing a period Bond now would be an entirely retrograde step, like getting back with an ex.

I've no idea right now. A 1950's Bond story is the closest to any choice I'd make. Somehow the idea of Bond/Bourne Expendables style makes me wince. Not so much a 50s reboot but some Moonraker adaptation perhaps. Somehow I picture it as like a Foyle's War style period production.

So, I guess the last option on the poll I'll click.

A 50's Bond perhaps. Just keep the current crew several leagues away from it.

I was curious to see how the Jinx film turned out - how it would be marketed and received, whether it would be a flop or a hit, whether it would do well enough to warrant a sequel, whether Eon would emphasise or downplay its links to the Bond series, whether Bond would make a cameo and if so whether he'd be played by Brosnan or someone new, whether Jinx would have her own gunbarrel, whether the Bond theme would be heard, whether M or Moneypenny or any other known faces would show up.... I was also intrigued by the idea of Stephen Frears as the director, and I also recall reading somewhere that the script was supposed to be surprisingly good and gritty. Incidentally, isn't the Jinx movie script one of the Holy Grails of 007 fandom? As far as I know, no story details whatsoever were ever leaked, yet we know that a completed script exists. I find it odd that Bond fans never seem interested in this project, yet there's plenty of discussion of other aborted Bond ventures and unused script and story elements.

All of which said, I don't require any spinoffs. While I was curious about Jinx I never actually wanted it to be made. Ditto the rumoured Wai Lin film - had it gone ahead I would have followed its production closely and looked forward to its release, but I never actually sat through TOMORROW NEVER DIES in 1997 thinking: "Wow, I really hope Michelle Yeoh's character gets her own movie."

But if I had to choose a spinoff, I'd go for faithful Fleming adaptations, maybe in period drama BBC miniseries form, ideally in black and white (although I'm sure "commercial considerations" would dictate colour), or perhaps done as B&W animated films echoing the Daily Express strips.

I voted: I would support a spin-off or reboot but my choice isn't listed

Because my choice would be a spin-off sitcom featuring M and her family. Every night she comes back home exhausted from the work at MI6 but none of that compares to her home. We'd see all the wacky antics going on with her husband and kids (and grandkids)!

This would be the theme song:

Just replace that lady's face with Judi Dench and you've got a hit!
