Surprised there's no thread for this.
Another Clooney smugfest, and Philip Seymour Hoffman doing his usual ham shtick.

Can't stand Hoffman or Giamatti. But, I sort of want to see this.

Watching Paul Giamatti makes me feels like I have ants crawling on the inside of my skin.

Me too. Even though it just looks like Wall Street (but with political power replacing the quest for money), the trailer makes the film look very watchable.

This board hates mediocrity more than outright ineptness.
THE IDES OF MARCH looks alright. The kind of thing you'd watch once and forget immediately after.

I agree it looks like a nice film to watch once. I may catch it on Blu, but it doesn't look exciting to me. In all honestly, Giamatti might be a part of that. I just can't stand him for whatever reason.

People too often forget about Giamatti's brilliant performance in BIG MOMMA'S HOUSE. Compelling work.

I'm just suggesting it doesn't quite merit all the negativity. It looks like a bit of nothing-too-special (kinda boring, to be honest), but it doesn't look unbearable either. If I'm going to set a film in my sights for a takedown, it ain't gonna be this flick.

You want to know why I hate mediocrity? Because of the potential and talent often wasted, dullness, and the fact that critics and audiences regularly confuse the product to be something far greater than it really is. Because mediocrity rests in a kind of No Man's Land; it's often accepted, merely because it's not terrible.
My issues with a middle ground run far deeper, but I won't go into it now.

I was just hoping I wasn't included in that assessment. I agree that it looks pretty average. I just don't like Giamatti.

No, the problem is not there are too few candles for too many moths. The problem is that most moths take themselves to be candles. That's elitism for you.

Perhaps that's why you still have such debates. Take a grenade and a phone box, chances are that settles the argument in your favour.

A somewhat humorless escalation I'd say. I may have to park my tanks on your mother's lawn.
