Maybe I'll be the only one to use this thread. I had multiple posts while subjectiing myself to EXTREMELY LONG AND INCREDIBLY CRASS, a movie experience that I would compare to turning my genitals into a kebab (not that I've done it), and I thought I'd not do that again.
Make sense?
Just started MIDNIGHT IN PARIS, aka TOMORROW NEVER DIES 2. Three minutes in and it's nothing but meaningless shots of Paris. Nicely framed and lit, but really? This much? Yeah, I get it. I'm in ****ing Paris. Enough with the post cards.
I like a movie where every shot matters and is there for a reason. I typically don't like random shots used to... I guess establish the setting.
Let's see if I make it through the film without posting again.

This movie is irritating. I'm not trying to be a sourpuss or anything.
I guess this is funny stuff to Woody Allen.

MIDNIGHT IN PARIS sucked. What a snooze fest.
The people who enjoy it are too lazy to watch LOVE AND DEATH, MANHATTAN, ZELIG, and/or ANNIE HALL.

That broad who played Zelda Fitzgerald was fucking awful.
Damn, I hated that film.

A movie with Rachel McAdams and Marion Cotillard I feel like I'm having my brain sucked out. How did this film get good reviews?
Who finds this shit funny? Aside from college professors? And I thought I was highbrow. Well, I didn't. I certainly don't now. This movie is for yuppie New York snobs and sycophants.

well for sure this shitbombing's put me firmly off it though I don't think I was ever going to get into a position to watch Midnight in Paris. Early Allen I think I'll plumb and that recent documentary film thingy that came out.
God, do we dare try From/To Rome with Love?
some of us need a giggle even if it's at the film rather than...with.

What if there are those of us who have seen (and admire) those flicks and still enjoy MIDNIGHT IN PARIS? I get that it isn't the bee's knees, but I really enjoyed it as a lightweight flick for a warm summer evening. But, then again, I'm a yuppie New York Philadelphia snob and sycophant.

Don't. It has a fairly funny, clever story element with Roberto Benigni, but that's about all it has going for it.

I guess I should have written: "Most of the people who enjoy it..."
I know a lot of self-diagnosed Woody Allen fans who loved the film, but have only really seen two or three of his (popular) works. Then there's the MIDNIGHT IN PARIS fan base on blogs around Internet Land. People seemed to think that just because Woody Allen was behind the wheel, that made it a good film. Obviously, The Academy jumped on that wagon, as well. I hate that way of thinking. Kind of like if a person said TORN CURTAIN is a great film just because Hitchcock had something to do with it, when everyone else can admit it was total trash, complete with a bad John Addison score.

Woody Allen wants to do a movie in Amsterdam (the Netherlands) and in exchange he wanted 14 million euro from the city to do so. The very diplomatically told him to take his movie business somewhere else.
While I found Midnight in Paris indeed a nice summermovie my favorite of his recent European output remains Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008).

I tried to watch Battleship last night and I ended up turning it off.
This movie is an insult to us intelligent movie viewers!

I doubt actual intelligent movie viewers would even bother to see that.

I kinda wrote that while aggravated by the film. :) I liked Corey Stoll as Hemingway. I dunno, with comedy I tend to either love something or not like it at all, and I didn't find MIDNIGHT to be even remotely funny. But I don't put myself up as rendering any final judgements. I'm no critic.
So, right now I have HUGO paused at 23 minutes on the dot. I must be a real jerk, because while this movie is very pretty and everything it is doing nothing for me on any level. Cohen's station inspector and his shenanigans are painfully unfunny to me. It's like this movie is all gears and no actual heart.
Hey, I'm not simply hating on the Best Picture nominees. I genuinely enjoyed THE DESCENDANTS (not a great movie, but I liked it), and I admired THE ARTIST.
So far I can say it's a shame DRIVE was snubbed. I liked it better than most of these others.

Maybe I'll give MIDNIGHT another shot someday. I think just personally it didn't grab me at all. But it took me three or four attempts to actually make it through ANNIE HALL. And I've never seen it all in one go. I just can't stand that movie.

I found MIDNIGHT IN PARIS enjoyable fluff, but I didn't think it was the bee's knees. I was flabbergasted when he suddenly transported to 1920s Paris, I was the double taking pigeon in the theater. Really odd that the marketing completely hid that whole aspect, I just assumed it was gonna be about Owen Wilson masturbating over Paris for 90 mins.
Anyway, MANHATTAN is the better film.

Maybe I'll give it another shot one day. I'm not sure what completely turned me off about this movie, but once I was I couldn't get into it.

I found it more amusing than funny, sometimes it got "too cute", lack of a better phrase. I remember thinking the McAdams character was written too much like a one dimensional character, just to make it easy for audiences to hate her. I just found that obnoxious.
Friend of mine loved the film and raved about it all year, she is an Allen nut though I guess.

There aren't many films that I'd consider torture but I COME WITH THE RAIN certainly got medieval on my ass.

MAN ON FIRE
There are few films I find as boring and nauseating as that.
