Top Gun 2 writers hired

Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, who collaborated on the script for "X-Men: First Class," are in negotiations to pen the sequel to "Top Gun" for Paramount and Skydance Productions.

I know time and gravity takes its toll on all of us, but....he's got the money and resources to take better care of himself. What the hell happened to him? Did his divorce from Joanne Whaley destroy him? It's hard to believe this was Iceman from TOP GUN.

Patrick Swayze, Emilio Estevez, Nicolas Cage, John Cusack, Matthew Broderick, Sean Penn, Michael J. Fox and Tom Hanks all turned down the role of Maverick. Charlie Sheen, Jim Carrey, Rob Lowe, Eric Stoltz, John Travolta, Scott Baio and Robert Downey Jr. were considered for the role of Maverick.

Of the names mentioned, I could really only see Swayze or Lowe as being a decent Maverick. Travolta certainly knows his way around a cock....pit (being a pilot himself and all), but his career, IIRC, was pretty much dead by 1985 (when the film would have gone into production), and he was certainly D-list by the late 80's and early into the 90's. He was just okay in BROKEN ARROW.

If Stoltz had taken the role he just would have ended up being replaced by Michael J. Fox.

Robert Downey Jr would probably have won an Oscar if he had played the role
Robe Lowe might have made a good "Ice Man"
and we eventualy did get to see what Charlie Shallow, I mean Sheen, would have done with the role in "Hot Shots"...
