Should I watch the first one? Just so I have some idea. Or could I just go in and it not be a problem? And yeah, lens flare - I can deal with that.

might pay to watch the first film I suppose. It's an alternate universe, being seperate to Shatner's Trek and beyond. It might key up the sequel. Depends on whether Trek XII references it much.

Worst that can happen is something or other.

I'm aware its different to Shatner's. ('Denny Crane!')

Eh, I'll borrow it out and get my brother to watch it with me or something.

You probably won't need to see the "first" one, as it has no plot or character development anyway. tongue

It seems Noel Clarke will be joining the cast in STAR TREK XII: KIRK GOES TO ENGLAND.

Cumberpatch totally looks like a Metron BTW.

Metron or Metrosexual, what's it to be?

Now, if only Kirk did go to England. Filmed in Canada of course.

Awwww.

Saw I read this interview a few months ago during the last Sherlock series that Cumberbatch said about his name "like a fart in a bath"

Lor' to think I remember him as Stephen Hawking in...Hawking and he was yet but unknown.

He might be completely wasted in this Trek film though. In every bloody sense.

from the Guardian

Quote :
He already appeared to be on the fast-track to the A-list after catching the eyes of Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson. Now Benedict Cumberbatch, star of the BBC's Sherlock Holmes TV series, may have landed his most high-profile role so far: the villain in the latest Star Trek movie.

Both Variety and the Hollywood Reporter say Cumberbatch is stepping into shoes recently vacated by Benicio Del Toro, who was initially set to square off against Captain James T Kirk et al in JJ Abrams' forthcoming followup to his own blockbusting 2009 series reboot. Variety says talks with Del Toro broke down about a month ago, and Cumberbatch subsequently blew Abrams and his team way with an incendiary audition.

The 35-year-old British actor is also due to voice Smaug the dragon and the Necromancer in Jackson's two-part Hobbit project. He is currently appearing as Major Stewart in Spielberg's Oscars-tipped War Horse, as well as playing an MI6 operative in Tomas Alfredson's recent adaptation of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

His role for Abrams may have particular resonance because the original 1982 Star Trek II is known for Ricardo Montalban's searing turn as villain Khan and was widely considered the best film of the series until Abrams entered the fray. The film-maker is not believed to be reviving Khan but is expected to honour his legacy by introducing an equally prominent bad guy.

Cumberbatch will head up what already looks likely to be a sizable British contingent for Star Trek II. Simon Pegg is due to return as Scottie, while Alice Eve and Noel Clarke are also joining the cast. The latter will reportedly play a family man, with a wife and young daughter, who becomes involved in Kirk and Spock's latest adventure.

Star Trek II sees Abrams returning as director, with a screenplay by himself, Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. The latter pair also worked on the first film. Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto will also be back as Kirk and Spock. Cumberbatch may be packing his bags already as, according to trekmovie.com, the sequel starts shooting in a couple of weeks for a 2013 release in 3D.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2012/jan/05/benedict-cumberbatch-star-trek-villian?newsfeed=true

some of the comments are worth reading if not for a laugh. Somebody raising umbrage that the guardian reckons TWOK was the best film until 'Abrams' film entered the fray' and the fact Cumberbatch is a Harrow old boy or that once again the British are playing 'evil incarnate'.

Ach gotten ein himmel.

I hope that in 10 to 15 years people will recognize how crap TREK XI really is. Just sayin'. Again.

some actress from "24" joins

http://insidemovies.ew.com/2012/01/06/nazneen-contractor-star-trek/

wife of Noel Clarke's character.

*hand over eyes* Clarke plays genius scientist whose wife is killed by Cumberbatch's villain at the start or failing that ends up having an affair with Chris Pine.

Not excited by another movie. Lightly interested in what it will be, what it will be about, and how good it will be. I hope it does well only to secure a possible future for the franchise on television.

I wish Abrams wasn't directing. He's not the right person for this at all. Brad Bird I could live with. A Trek film of the quality of MIGP I could live with.

that presents the most fantastic image.

:)

No, well, hopefully it won't be Star Trek 2. Obviously not Star Trek XII. Probably just like the TNG films hopefully, Star Trek -Title.

Star Trek: Sherlock

Star Trek: When 3D Attacks

Etc. Boy, I hope so.

As for Trek on TV. Personally think it won't happen for a while. Maybe ever. Like 2020+
