Did the new and incredibly bizarre warp core remind anyone else of the super computer in SUPERMAN III?
Does Gus Gorman exist in the Abramsverse?
Would Richard Pryor have made a good Daystrom?

I'll admit I think the Spock/Uhura romance is a curious decision on the part of the writers ... a relationship with someone who doesn't really 'do' emotions? Erm, OK ... you go, girl :| .
To quote Kirk 'Wait ... are you two fighting? What is that even LIKE?'

I do think the fighting line is clever and Pine plays it well. Pine plays this very well when it comes to humor.
As for the romance. In Hollywood, every single big movie needs a love story. Two people just gotta be in love. They probably wanted to free up Kirk, so they gave Spock a girlfriend and Uhura a thankless role.

I feel like The Man Trap is the only TOS episode they watched and TWOK the only movie.

If romance was demanded, it would make more sense to just have Christine Chapel as Spock's love interest. It's been hinted at and played with several times on the original show, why not go that route? It would be a win win for Trek canon and for the filmmakers showing audiences that Spock as a case of the nogays.
EDIT: Actually, I just looked up Memory Alpha's page for Chapel in the alternate universe, and here's with the writers had to say.
Quote :
In an interview with screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, Kurtzman explained, "In our original, original draft we wrote some scenes with Nurse Chapel but ended up losing them. Even in our first draft it's not included. We originally had a flirtation between her and Spock: Nurse Chapel was obviously really obsessed with him and he was not giving her the time of day, which we thought was funny, but then we came onto the Spock/Uhura connection [established in the film] and that's why Nurse Chapel ended up by the wayside." (Star Trek Magazine, issue 146, p. 38)
Right, you could have simply changed that dynamic between them by doing what you did with Uhura... Really not that difficult.

a good way of getting Kurtwood Smith back into Trekdom. :)

What is unique about Into Darkness is that I believe its the first time two Batmen have been onscreen together.

Ah, I see. And for these guys the only way to fit a woman into the movie is "Who's she fucking?"
Orci: So, Kurtzman.
Kurtzman: Yes, Orci?
Orci: Who is Chapel gonna fuck? Majel Barret was such a big part of the franchise. We should maybe honor her? So who is her character gonna be fucking?
Kurtzman: Spock. Cuz it was funny on the old show. She wanted his dick, and he's like "no". That's funny.
Orci and Kurtzman: Hahahahaha. LOL.
Kurtzman: Seriously, though. That's too many characters. We already have a girl in the movie. Uhura. Spock can fuck her.
Orci: That would be so funny.
Orci and Kurtzman: Hahahahaha. LOL.
Orci: Maybe we can say Kirk fucked her in the second movie. Just completely throw away her character and imply that Kirk took advantage of his rank and didn't even remember it. And because she's a woman she would just leave the ship.
Kurtzman: Great idea!

Bruce Greenwood voiced Batman in the excellent UNDER THE RED HOOD animated feature and Peter Weller voiced 60 year old Batman in the DARK KNIGHT RETURNS animated feature.

Weller's character in ENT on the other hand is excellent and a more interesting antagonist than Admiral George Cheney.

Ya know, I actually thought the first two thirds were pretty enjoyable. Character assassinations and general screenwriting incompotence aside. Visually I liked it. I thought it really evoked a TOS sorta flavor. Campy in the right way. Then in the last third it became VOYAGER: THE MOTION PICTURE.

I'm watching Half in the Bag right now. I wish these guys would have been this hard on Trek '09. I briefly posted a comment below the video, but I quickly vaporized it. I'd rather not have YouTube assholes telling me to go fuck myself or whatever.

Then it took 10 seconds for me to remember how he died.
Then I was like, "Oh yeah, Rutger Hauer killed him."

Giving the Into Darkness OST a second bash. It's...noise for the most part, lacking the grace of Goldsmith and to a point, Horner (I said it). Some bits sound alright but there's no particular favourite (Sub-Prime Directive has the 'Gianchino Trek Theme' which sounds a bit rousing but there).
As with Trek XI I 'rebranded' the track titles. For my own amusement and life is sadly lacking. The wikipedia page on the OST helps, letting one know where the music's happening in terms with the film. Mine aren't inspired by you have Buying the Space Farm to contend with.
(if only for a proper recording of the Nero Burns track where the operatic fluff kicks in).

I've yet to finish listening to it. Maybe when I do might night shift of the week. I also "acquired" the STINO's soundtrack. If I get too sick of it I'll just easily switch to some Goldsmith.

On the plus side, it is doing better overseas. On the downside, it's $10 mil behind the first one in the States in raw dollars, is falling faster, and the overseas grosses haven't expanded as rapidly as the market has. Granted, competition is a lot bigger this summer than in 2009, but considering Paramount likely expected more money across the board and budgeted for it, they can't be too enthusiastic at the grosses. $400 million worldwide isn't what they expected for a $200 million production investment.
