I'd pay to see the film for that line alone.

Star Trek XII The Wrath of Del Toro is scheduled for May 17th, 2013 apparently

and in 3D

lens flare is going to kill.

I wonder if this means they'll approach it the same way The Dark Knight Rises and supposedly Skyfall are taking, setting it many years after the last entry, with nuTrek's case the crew having established themselves on the Enterprise. I suggested back in 09 that that should be the approach, ignore the last one like the plague and just make Trek film without all the stupid alternate reality nonsense and shit, set it well after they've settled in.

Or maybe we'll just get Star Trek 2: Transformers 4 - That New Car Smell

Somewhere between the two. Set a few years on but much the same.

Maybe the Enterprise will look, dare I say, better. Fat chance.

I doubt Abrams' directorial style will translate well to 3-D.

3-D lens flare: melting corneas since 2013.

The metric shitload of lens flares in Super 8 reminds me of Jar Jar being responsible for the birth of the Empire, in terms of filmmakers' responses to nerd rage.

Not just nerd rage, but also a legit response to abandonment of straightforward photographic principles.

I jumped over to netflix after reading this and looked at a random scene. You have Spock on the transporter with lens flares going off like crazy behind him, then reverse shots of Uhura in which none of this light is hitting her at all.

If I saw a movie like this in the theater I'd have felt justified in leaving and demanding my money back (something I have never done in 51 yrs and 1 day.)

He says he's going to cut lens flare down, or something like that, yet from what's said above about Super 8 makes me wonder. Maybe it's a stupid thing to go on about endlessly but it does hinder viewings of the blasted movie and in 3D or not it'll be a pain in the teeth.

Well, that and the music probably. And the Enterprise. And Scotty. And...

I have a well known opinion of the 2009 film, and I really have no hope for this next one. I'll see it, and I will give it a shot. I'm just not expecting anything good with Abrams in charge.

I just don't give a fuck.

That's quite fitting, since the problem seems to be that Abrams doesn't give an expletive about the shows core fans. ;)

According to Trek Movie some Latino Review published 'as fact' that Del Toro was playing Khan then Abrams is saying it's not true.

Khan leading a gang of Klingons.

Wonder if Joachim will be back...or maybe dare I say the Kirk vs Khan fight scene that wasn't.

I have a feeling Del Toro is just gonna have a villain as badly written as Nero and play it as hammy and embarrassing as Eric Bana. But I can't blame him for wanting a new boat.

Unfortunately the likely model isn't really the original series at all but rather the atypical 'Wrath of Khan' scenario where the precedent for excessive ham is now encoded in the genes.

something tells me I might end up preferring his Terra Prime role as far as Trek input goes than this. Maybe he's some Admiral Leyton type...er admiral.

Del Toro and Weller aren't too bad names wise. I guess Greenwood's not in it at the moment or ever.

I have a feeling Weller could be the Greenwood equivalent of the last flick. The authority figure.

Well, they deliberately didn't kill off Pike or give him the full proper Piking for whatever reason, so I'd be surprised if they didn't bring him back.

Del Toro's dropped out.

I'm guessing it might have something to do with Scorsese moving ahead with Silence as his next project (finally).

Good. Del Toro and Trek just doesn't strike me as right in any universe.

Weller? Okay, that intrigues me.

The article also mentions Alice Eve joining the cast. Hadn't heard that news. She could work as Janice Rand. I think they should have Rand in the picture.

I've mentioned what I'd do with Trek 2. A ramped up combination of "Space Seed" and "The Doomsday Machine", taking Khan from one, and Decker and the Constellation from the other. Khan steals the Constellation and Decker goes fucking apeshit and has a whole conflict thing with Kirk that Kirk would have to deal with in a different manner than simply picking a fight on the damn bridge. I'd tried to think of who could play Decker. Maybe Weller could do it, though he's not who I'd imagine in the role.

Why did I tell you that? I don't know.

impeccably named Benedict Cumberbatch joining Star Trek XII. A little bit of a cast shaping up now.
