Sounds good. Thanks Lazenby. Yeah, at the moment its more of a security thing than an elitism thing. At least, I hope it doesn't become an elitism thing. After the bad blood dies down it should be lifted, and then if someone comes on who's contributions aren't... appreciated let's say, then they can be banned. We certainly shouldn't be setting some some kind of "are you good enough?" screening process. It's more "are you only joining to cause trouble for us back on MI6?" |

I saw that, that was good MP: I daresay they'll mention PainFace tm in your eulogy, though may that be in a day far away from now! |

| For me it's not a good enough thing but a right fit thing.... In the beginning a forum sets a tone. We've all come together because we have a similar desire for a forum. If it dilutes too early then that goal may never be reached. Once that tone is set and there are a few hundred members and 75 or so regular contributors, it will be harder for a trouble-maker or over-sensitive member to dilute the tone. |

| Btw, I love how literal your avatar is, kitts. I'll give them credit, first thing I did at NuMI6 was find a picture of a goddamn Fairbairn-Sykes and make it my avatar -- aka what I'd been wanting for five years. But over here, I wanted a face.
A face chiseled in granite. |

| I'm eager to make the video really.
I might as well delete the original one on YouTube. Or just keep it up for a bit. KTBEU was where it got most of its hits and all those links are gone now, so it's not like a lot of dead links will be up.
Anyway, I'm gonna get to work. This place is getting addicting and I'd like to get the video done soon. |

No it shouldn't. Any decent club has a door policy. - retrokitty wrote:

| When Brown and I were running Studio B there were endless threads about MI6 and we cracked down on it. I don't think we need all those threads at Bond and Beyond. First, it's disrespectful to M and Lazenby, and second, if we're to build something new here we have to move on. |

Indeed. While I don't want to kill the humour in the threads, it's a good way for some members to vent their anger and still provide comedy for us. I've therefore merged the creative titles thread with the MI6 refugees thread for members who would still like to post in them. |

| I agree it should be kept to a minimum. I think in time it will die down anyway, as of the moment it's still quite fresh. |

| Three days on. I guess the focus is on moving forward.
I was looking for a post that Ambler made early on after the clusterfuck occured where he said they were trying to monetize the forum. I don't quite see it that way, but I think that can be read into the design of the forum.
I can't see it lending itself to being an informal hangout. |

I can't see it lending itself to being an informal hangout. I think those are factors which are being overlooked in all of the "you haven't given the place a chance" comments some of us are getting from MI6 staff. A lot of what people view as "bad" about the new place are things which hit you immediately, and aren't things you're likely to come to love just by subjecting yourself to them repeatedly (I tried this with GOLDFINGER, it didn't work). The "endless wall of text" thing irked me straight away, as did the font, the colour scheme, the facebook similarities (if we all liked Facebook, we wouldn't have spent most of our net time on the old MI6 forums), the text all being on just one side of the screen, the fact that each post isn't sufficiently divided from the posts above and beneath it, the fact that the quotes look like a part of your own reply text, and (not that it's that big a deal, but it's still rubbish) even the "bonus" of being able to choose our own avatars seems fairly useless given how tiny the avatar sizings are. Sure, we might "get used to it", but that's not the same thing as liking it. Why would people subject themselves to an experience they don't like? It's like if someone paints your living room wall in puke green or something; You'll "get used to it" in the sense that the shock of seeing it will wear off over time, but you'll never like it, especially when you think of how much better it could have been or was before. After making a few posts there, people knew the score perfectly well as to what they were dealing with there, and the stuff they didn't like hasn't nor likely ever will change. Thus what chance is there to give? And reading posts being made about us being simply "just the old people walking out" as if we're just leaving because it's new or it's LOLZ-generation or whatever is complete and utter brainless bulls**t. I've listed stuff I hate above, all of which has f*** all to do with my age. |

| The grand old Keeping the British End Up is dead. It's arguably been dying for the past year or two with all the restrictions being put. You can even say they showed contempt for non-Bond topics as far back when they decided to no longer count posts in the general section, as if they're not worthy of being acknowledged. I agree with Tux that the sudden censoring of the word "bitch" was just the beginning of the end. That was absurd.
I'm moving on. I've said all there needs to be said concerning the way things were handled and how SH***Y the new format is.
So all I can do is stick here, discuss things with you fine folks and once in awhile make a humorous crack at nuMI6 via Trek Montages or whatever.
RIP Keeping The British End Up (2002-2011) |
