This is a great song badly performed. Sometimes that's just how it is. For instance, I've seen New Order eight or nine times, and not once did I witness a decent show. Some acts just can't cut it live.

Miss Grant's problem is somewhat more severe, however. She has no stagecraft or confidence, and that's overpowering everything here. She reminds me of early Karen Carpenter, who also used to turn her back on the audience. In my selfish world, Lana would have made her EP and then been struck by a truck.

That performance suggested that she lacked live experience. Which was weird, because she had been trying to break into the mainstream for years before she got her big break. I guess some people just don't have it no matter how many times they go up on stage.

Agreed about Sylvian's over-affected vocals. The same problem I have with Bryan Ferry.

That said, I like his underrated '87 collaboration with Johny Marr - Bête Noire. "The Right Stuff" is probably the best thing to come off that record.

Fun's WE ARE YOUNG TONIGHT

Takes about 30-45 seconds to get into, but then you'll like it. I don't really care for the opening and closing vocals; they sound more "spoken" than sung, but everything in between is gold. This song will probably be the "Closing Time" (Semisonic) of the new generation of bar drinkers; something to play at last call.

Tom Meighan's voice is like nails on a chalkboard for me, and that Morricone ripoff is pretty dire.

I kinda liked Kasabian's debut album and Empire, but they've only got worse since. Velociraptor! taking the cake.

I actually think they're getting better as they go on, and they're a terrific live band.

But each to their own.
