I never usually shop there because they rape you with prices, but I got a $5 rebate when I bought SKYFALL and a free poster (where Bond's on the ground and pointing the gun). Yeah. I got the poster there as well. |

| I find it passing strange that although Skyfall has comfortably debuted at #1 on both DVD and Blu-Ray sales charts, no sales figures have been given. |

Keep an eye on this website: http://www.the-numbers.com/ They'll have the data once it becomes available. With streaming services and kiosk rental companies such as Red Box and Netflix having to wait for many titles, the studios may withhold some of their home entertainment sales data until all partners have had their "window" with Skyfall. Just a theory. I've also read that SF was on pace to be the 3rd best selling blu ray/dvd of all time, but we'll just see about that. |

| Whyle 6 March be the Dutch release date, Dutch store promote the dvd (and the price of BD) on promotion outside of the store. The price difrence is € 3,00. As expect there going to ask 14,99 for the dvd and 17,99 for BD.

| I am pleased to announce that I am now Skyfall complete. Blu-ray arrived by mail this week. I also received my Thomas Newman soundtrack cd. Wow does the movie look good in Hi-Def. Deakins can sure shoot a movie. I've watched it three times including the two commentary viewings. Those count as viewings IMHO as one does watch the film, boosting my total SF viewing to 6 now including three theatre screenings. This is great value. I got it for $19.99 plus tax. Normally I wouldn't pay that but I make an exception for Bond. I need the new Bond product in a timely fashion. I was very impressed with the roughly hour-long extras feature, Shooting Bond. It was very well paced and edited, chalk full of behind the scenes shots and interesting info about the shoot. I like how it methodically worked its way through various topics of discussion. The grand premeire feature was quite spectacular as well and really took us viewers to the red carpet. Nice job there. Mendes commentary was very well done. He carried the whole 140 minutes quite well. He kept it moving and always had something to day. You will learn a lot about the film from sitting through his commentary and most of it is quite interesting. ie it doesn't bog down in a lot of arcane discussion of technical filmmaking technique. He keeps the general flm viewer in mind. I can't say the same for the 2nd commentary from Babs, MGW and Dennis Gassner. Gassner might have been interesting if he could have been unburdened of the presense of the two deadly dull producers. If you can get through the first horrible 20 minutes where no-one seems to have any idea what it is they are actually doing in front of the microphone, it does get more bearable as it goes on and the three settle in. Gassner I think finally realizes after a while that Babs and Mikey are really just there to try and outdo each other as cheerleaders for the wholoe production. He does eventually start asserting himself, offering some insights as to production design and the look of the film, despite the two commentary airheads that are with him. Babs, Mikey and Gassner too, set all-time commentary records for pithy platitudes. Everything and anyone associated with this film is fantastic, great or amazing or a combination of all three. Vomit, vomit, vomit. This is one of the worst commentaries ever recorded for Bond, although it has plenty of competition in the broader commentary category. However with other films I can just kill the commentary after 5 minutes if its too lame, but with Bond I am obligated to endure. It is my responsibility as a Bondphile. Thank-you Babs and Mikey for both having absoulutely nothing of any interest to say. If I ever hear either of your voices again, I might hurl myself into the nearest komodo dragon pit. ==I will offer my thoughs on Mendes' commentary musings in another post. There is much to discuss there. I can't say I relate to much of his approach but I do appreciate that he took time to actually do a commentary and enlighten us as to his filmmaking process. Unlike say other unmentionable directors (Forster) |

| My DVD copy has no special features, except one about the title design, and another about cars. Nothing else. :( |

| I still can't come to terms with the cover pose...it's like they photo shopped out a zimmer frame and tagged a ppk to his right hand. Terrific Blu Ray though well worth the purchase. |

You can skip the commentaries. They are mostly tedious, but do watch all the features. Most are very well produced and do shed much insight on the broader Bond world. |

| If you only need one commentary I would pick the one Tom Mankiewicz did for LALD. |

| I think I've only heard the commentary for DAD, and the only thing I remember is that the diamond smuggler's glasses in the PTS were actually Brosnan's, so he was taking them back. I think of that every time I watch it now. 8) |

| I have dutifully listend to at least one commentary for every Bond film ie I have listened to the first commentary, except of course, QoS, which has no commentary. From GF foward I have yet to get to the 2nd commentaries with the exception of three of the later released Rog commentaries which I think turned up with the Ultimate Edition dvds. And of course I have listened to both of the SF commentaries. I may be the only person in the world that has. No-one else on this board had admitted to sitting through both yet. Catching up on the outstanding 2nd commentaries is next on my Bond-list of things to do, after I finish the current blu-athon. I am also almost finished my Fleming/Amis/Pearson/Wood (Bond lit '50's to '70s) re-readathon. Just another 40 pages or so in the Pearson book to finish (I re-read the Wood books first). Then I am going to purchase the comic book ominbus editions which are advertised on Amazon. They look kind of interesting, what with all the comics packaged in a series of omnibus editions. I also want to listen to all the Fleming books on tape. Busy busy. So much Bond-work to do. |
