Logan's first was DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER, Mendes' was LIVE AND LET DIE. Will there be a whiff of early 70s Bond to SKYFALL? Hard to imagine that there would be, but I wouldn't mind, if so.

Rango suggests that Logan isn't adverse to a bit of arbitrary bonkersness.
I don't think anyone else has put a line in a kids film about eating Pop-Tarts with Kim Novak, at any rate.

One of my wishes it to see Bond or someone caught reading a book like this:

That's an interesting piece you linked to Shark. I am especially encouraged by this bit, that Skyfall might reveal Spectre as the big-bad behind Quantum, and as am ongoing nemeis for Bond going forward. If so, Fiennes/Blofeld does need a cat to stroke. Blofeld and cat go hand-in-hand, at least in the films.
"Speaking of which, all reports indicate that the mysterious — and wildly underdeveloped — Quantum group (conglomerate? cabal?) does not appear in SKYFALL. This omission may prove all the better for the third story given what a dud Quantum ended up being compared to the villainous Cold War glory days of SPECTRE. As a lifelong Bond;fan, I hoped that Quantum would eventually be revealed as a failed subcontracting venture by SPECTRE that was completely unaware of its evil parent company. Quantum’s failure would finally expose the existence of SPECTRE which would then provide all the anti-007 villainy going forward in the series. That hope may not prove too far from the truth since SKYFALL is confirmed to ignore Quantum altogether in Bond’s new mission, if not drop it completely from the franchise. Might this story drop the pretense and introduce SPECTRE once and for all as the modern antithesis of MI6 once and for all? I’ll raise a Vesper martini to that!"
I think Craig has been saying he hoped there would be no Quantum in B23 all along, I just hoped he wouldn't get his way
makes no sense to me to leave it hanging
SPECTRE behind Quantum? that doesn't make much sense to me either
but then I've never liked the use of SPECTRE outside of original trilogy
lets move forward toward new evil masterminds and stop living in the past I say :bounce:

I'll second this, don't want to see SPECTRE or Blofeld again, been there, done that don't want them pissing on my good memories and really don't see any value in regurgitating that organisation as literally any other Organisation can, if delveloped properly (preferably without the creative lag of P&W), deliver the same kind of threat. Making it SPECTRE is simply pandering to that anal sector of fans who can't move on and/or it's a cheap option to play off a reputation they cba to earn all over again.
Onward and upward is the best course.

Unfortunately, onward and upward more often has been downward and into the cesspit. SPECTRE is Bond's very roots and it's alway good to stay grounded in your essential identity. Forget who you are and you become something you're not. And in Bond's case, that means just another bland, generic Hollywood action anti-hero.

But simply using a few familiar names and organisations won't change anything, indeed if I accept what you say (and tbh I mostly do) then I would still champion the idea of using fresh and original characters....I don't want an emo centric rebirth of a character whose only association with the past is his name and that tired pre emptive claim 'this is going back to FLEMING'S Blofeld' - a statement used to justify the inevitable makeover to make him seem relevent to an age obsessed with diminished responsiblity and zero accountability (the anithesis of Fleming's aspirations). The problems with the series (in this specific regard) are inherent in the presentation of the characters, and using familiar names is imo just a license to heighten the ultimate dissapointment.

You may be right, lachesis. That said, the willingness to return to the trappings of the past at least suggests that Micolli haven't completely divorced themselves from Fleming. The use of SPECTRE--if it happens--at least provides an opportunity for something good and Bondian to happen.

Good and Bondian. Spectre brings a nice shot of escapism and fantasy to the Bond proceedings and one nicely rooted in the source material as well. The evil forces of Spectre are a natural and exciting enemy for Bond in any era. If Babs brings back the man with cat, I may have to send her a birthday card, or just a Bravo Babs card.:)

Encouraging words from Logan in that interview.
"The important thing for me is making sure that the action belongs in that movie, cause there’s such a thing as a Bond kind of action, and then there’s a subset of that which is our Skyfall kind of action, they all have their own definitions.”

I do hope the comment about Bond not being about the action or the stunts is more than just spiel, it's the most encouraging thing I have heard for some considerable time.

Interesting. He seems enthusiastic enough about Bond and his opportunity to write it to not fuck up the film. A bit loopy though. Maybe that'll translate to escapism on screen? Probably not. Seems very focused on Bond's character, which is interesting given M's name pops up first in the official plotline.

Interviewer brought Craig/Bond up first, actually. I'm sure when Logan mentioned 'amazing characters' that M was on his mind.

No, I was talking about the official plotline:
Quote :
Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.
... But as you can see, I was the idiot who didn't check that before commenting, and realised now that Bond's name is first. Moving on...

I may have asked this before, so if I have just deal with it. But does anyone remember in recent history (within the past 25 years or so) a Bond film in production where so little was known about the plot or the villains?
I love it. Don't get me wrong. I think it's great the way they are being very secretive with details of the film, because it makes me think we're going to get a very special film that requires the kind of covert actions EON has been dealing with (I'm still of the belief that Feinnes is Blofeld, and possibly Bardem is Jaws).

Finding Jaws hard to picture in a Craig Bond, to be honest.

Agreed. I want to be as ignorant as possible about the plot when I walk into the theater on November 9, 2012.

Word has it Fiennes is an ally. But I agree with Blunt Instrument -- it would take a lot of work for a character like Jaws to avoid sticking out like a sore thumb with Craig.

But "a lot of work" is the point. If Christopher Nolan can bring a balanced dose of reality and fantasy to his Batman films, I think Sam Mendes could do the same with a modern version of Blofeld or Jaws.

I can see Blofeld being refurbished for CraigBond but I'm not so sure you can do the same with Jaws. There's no real inherent quality about Jaws that allows him to be remade in a more realistic fashion unless you strip him of those cartoonish elements that make him Jaws.
