I think that production has actually managed to uphold Marc Forster's "the locations are characters themselves" mantra without actually consciously choosing to do it (and they don't seem to be pretentious enough to want to try). Austria was the only location that really stood out in QUANTUM OF SOLACE; Haiti and Bolivia tended to blend together, Russia and Talamone were barely featured, it was almost impossible to make much out in Siena and London was just sterile.

But here, we've got locations that are distinctly different, with an individual look and feel to them - the high-tech neon futurism of Shanghai, the moors of Scotland, the east-meets-west and arid plains of Turkey, and the relative normality of London.

Well, maybe things will turn out that way, but as you yourself are fond of saying, we don't have enough information to tell one way or another yet. Will each location genuinely have a different feel to it in the sense that different things happen in different locations (for example, the action in Shanghai has a slightly bizarre feel to it, while Scotland is more gritty)? I'm thinking of how the different locations in OP and TLD had very different feels to them because the events happening in those locations were noticeably different (especially tonally). If we get the same non-descript action scenes in all the locations, then it will be the same waste of locations as in QOS.

I think we do have enough information in this case. Just looking at set pictures and the constant videos from Turkey show us as much. Like I said, Bolivia and Haiti tended to blend together in QOS; one could have been just around the corner from the other. But in SKYFALL, we've seen pictures of a city which looks like it belongs somewhere in the (near - maybe 20 or 30 years or so) future. Compare that against Istanbul, which has always had a very unique blend of east and west with a little bit of its own distinct personality mixed in. Where Shangahi is bathed in an intense neon glow, the colours of Istanbul are much more earthy (just Google "istanbul spice bazaar" to see what I mean) and muted. This isn't a case of apples and oranges, but of apples and ultranationalist fairies - that's how distinct they are, and I can't decide which one I'm more excitied to see. And I think that this demonstrates the way SKYFALL has lived up to one of the promises QUANTUM OF SOLACE made, but never followed through on.
