| AR is the result of teaming a screenwriter who's forté is entertaining modern Saturday matinée, a French art cinema director and a team of producers looking to flog a dead Ripley. |

| The attitude that an entire medium is inherently inferior to another is pretty fucking snobbish. It reminds me of that old hierarchy of genres milarky. |

| Cartoons can be as good as any live action film, if not at times better, I'm not denying that. But I don't think Tux was talking about the likes of FANTASIA, DUMBO, BATMAN: MASK OF THE PHANTASM, WATERSHIP DOWN, or whatnot. He meant light, disposable rubbish. |

| I'm never sure about RESURRECTION because that mix of Whedon and Jeunet is so odd.
Take out Jeunet and would we have gotten a better popcorn flick? Or lost everything that makes the thing worthwhile?
Take out Whedon and would we have gotten a more worthwhile, artistic sequel? Or become too bogged down in inappropriate pretensions? |

| Whedon was the source of the lesbian subtext, so I give him some credit. Though from what I gather, that was a lot more overt in his original script. So I guess I'm thankful for his part in generating the ideas, but also thankful that it was Jeunet that handled them. |

| Saw Prometheus. Thoughts in relevant thread.
I'm at least glad it's Ridley Scott directing, his talent does elevate the rest of it.

| The Eiger Sanction
or what if 'Dirty' Harry Callahan and Petroni went to climb some rock. It's not a bad film but it's not even close to good. Eastwood's badass, Kennedy's got some good lines, the music is top notch and puts me in mind of what a James Bond Williams score might've been. (A key track is "Friends and Enemies" when the theme kicks in at a moment I believe when Eastwood meets Kennedy in the desert). Beautiful women abound...etc |

He does. Think one of the criticisms people had was that homosexuals are always villains or some nonsense. Bet he couldn't whistle though. Shame how he died, in reality, good actor in what he did. |

Shame how he died, in reality, good actor in what he did. I always thought the screenwriters of QOS ripped Greene's death from Miles's in EIGER. "They found Miles Mellow in the sand. Dead as Kelly's nuts." "They found Greene dead in the middle of the Bolivian desert, of all places. Two bullets in the back of his skull. They found motor oil in his stomach."Just imagine George Kennedy as M, or Judi Dench as George. |

| Heck, George Kennedy as Tanner.
"If you touch this telescope...you'll need surgery to remove it from your ass."
Well...much rather Eiger than QOS. |

| Throw into the mix Gideon's Day or Gideon of Scotland Yard for the USA. Been a while since I saw it last and therefore surprised to see it's a John Ford film. It's an alright film more or less with Jack Hawkins in the lead and usual form. Good to see the likes of Frank Lawton, Jack Watling and Laurence Naismith as well as 1950's London looking vivid in colour. For another classic Hawkins-as-cop reach for The Long Arm. |

| Bigger than Life
a James Mason co-produced/co-written (with Richard Maibum amongst others) film that shows this teacher, Mason, take a dangerous drug to battle a life threatening condition. The drug only serves to make him a monster effectively, massive ego, questioning, raging against everything and eventually going so far as to try to sacrifice his son a la Abraham in the Bible. The short climatic fight between Mason and Matthau has punch for lack of a better word and overall the film is charged by Mason's performance. |

| My Week with Marilyn (2011)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1655420/
It's refreshing to see that in today's cinema saturated with big noisy CGI and SFX overloaded productions and cliche filled action films bordering on a B- movie status and low budget PG-13 horror movies wannabes,
there's someone who can still produce an intelligent film.
My only question is:
"is this really a true story?"
Because I have my doubts that any of the events depicted in this film did happen to Colin Clark as he claims.

Quite enjoyed it. The story, the direction, Barry's score, Caine's sarcastic performance. Quite liked it. And I have to say that I've been wanting to see this damn thing for nearly a decade. |

| Lethal Weapon (1987) [Director's Cut]
Solid 80's entertainment. I forgot how hilariously unrealistic it is.
I got the first three LW Director's Cuts for a good price. Only seen the first two, and that was over ten years ago. |
