Spanish fresco restoration botched by amateur

Jesus Christ, that's nuts. Given the age of the fresco, surely there would have been somebody on hand to stop what the woman was doing to it. :|

The comments about this on yahoo's page are hysterical.

We were laughing even harder the more we read (everybody thought of the 'airbrushed photo' episode of SEINFELD, where George tries to get his image out of a pic on his boss' desk, and the touchup guy basically creates a cartoon image), and then we'd flick back up to the picture and go off in new peals of laughter.

The picture alone is hilarious enough, but the last paragraph of that BBC article just makes the entire story perfect. It's a shame that a fresco has been ruined, but the end result is so funny that I can't bring myself to be upset.

Good think the fresco wasn't a portrait of Mohammed or someone dear to the hearts and minds of Muslims; there'd be riots, burnings and beheadings by now.

When I first saw it on Spanish TV, I thought it was some Mr. Bean-type stunt.
